About Mumbai

Including tips for the best time to visit Mumbai

Fondly called the ‘City of Dreams’, Mumbai is one big home to aspiring artists and job seekers from smaller towns, business magnates and legendary film stars. Being India’s financial capital and the heart of Bollywood, the city gloats over its opulence but also humbles down with its religious roots and hard-working spirit. The contrasting elements of the city are quite evident, especially when you see several roadside tea stalls and eateries set against the backdrop of a two-billion-dollar mansion.

The city is dotted with quiet pockets drenched in culture and history amidst its otherwise bustling energy. On your trip to Mumbai, take a long drive along the Bandra-Worli Sea Link or walk the Marine Drive promenade, overlooking the city’s glittering skyline that borders the Arabian Sea. You’ll also find iconic places of worship, such as the ISKCON temple, Mount Mary Church and Haji Ali Dargah opening their doors to you. To spend some time in the lap of nature, explore the lakes, caves and biodiversity of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park.

Shopping is an undisputed local pastime in Mumbai. The lively streets of Linking Road, Colaba Causeway and Lokhandwala lay out colourful options for footwear, clothes and jewellery. You can wander around beautiful fabrics shops in Crawford Market or pick up antique souvenirs from the narrow lanes of Chor Bazaar. For a full-blown luxury retail experience, make your way to Palladium Mall, High Street Phoenix Mall or Inorbit Mall.

Mumbai is too noisy but very interesting place to visit.

20 March 2024

Mumbai is too noisy but very interesting place to visit. There are many old buildings that have been maintained well. Getting around is very easy accept during peak hours when there is a heavy traffic. Thanks to food inn, I had lots of good food to eat.

It is fast developing but retains the charm of the people.

It is fast developing but retains the charm of the people. We used Mumbai Magic for our tour guides and I cannot recommend them enough for tours of Dharavi, and also a historical tour of Mumbai. We also went to visit where Ghandi grew up. So much to see and do - we spent 3 days which was enough to get a good flavour of the culture, the people and of course, the wonderful food. You will not be disappointed and a most definitely recommend you spend some time is this wonderful city.

Mumbai is the most happening safest city in India for travelers of any age, sex or country. I have grown my entire life here and can vouchsafe its the most inclusive and positive place to live. People are always hectic and city never sleeps, but anytime yo need help, just one word and 5 people will come immediately.

My second time there.

12 March 2024

My second time there.. We usually stay at the TAJ Palace, and did this trip for a week, my wife had to return early to the states, so I checked out of the TAJ Palace and moved to the Four Seasons Mumbai for a change of pace The hotel was being renovated--and was not up to the Four Seasons standard. I checked out the next morning very disappointed.

Incredibly busy bustling city.

26 February 2024

Incredibly busy bustling city. The roads are very noisy and difficult to cross. So it is a full-on experience. Walking around is interesting but exahuating. That said, places like Crawford Market were an incredible experience. Just the people, the things you can buy and the activities are a feast for the eyes and all the senses. There isn't a lot of tourist stuff there or specific things to do like sights or museums, but you do get a fascinating glimpse of life in India's most dynamic city. You need a lie-down afterwards, though!
