About Kuala Lumpur

Including tips for the best time to visit Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur is a city of tantalising contrasts, with seemingly no end to the list of things to do, see – and taste.

Packed with gleaming skyscrapers, large malls and bustling markets, Malaysia’s capital is a magnet for shopping and nightlife, but also a fusion of ancient cultures. Malay, Chinese, Indian, Tamil and Thai people have lived side by side here for generations – a melting pot that’s best appreciated through the local cuisine.

Follow your nose to Petaling Street in Chinatown, and try recipes like ‘Chili pan mee’, a noodle stir-fry of fried onions, fresh scallions, crushed peanuts, shredded pork and a poached egg. Or, head over to Brickfields (Little India) for spicy chicken curry, dosa pancakes and as many banana fritters as you can manage. Take a map to make sure you don’t get lost between these crowded districts.

But it’s not all about the food. The futuristic Petronas Towers define the Kuala Lumpur skyline, while the Islamic Arts Museum and National Museum offer a glimpse into the city’s short history. You can escape the hustle in the verdant Botanical Gardens, or the Batu Caves – a series of spectacular, Hindu shrine-filled chambers beneath a limestone hill, just half an hour north of the city.

Kuala Lumpur International Airport offers direct flights to Singapore and other world-wide destinations.

It’s ok.

It’s ok. Amazing to see Petronas Towers for the first time, but that’s it. Street food could be better. Most famous areas like Bukit Bintang are just luxurious malls. You could be anywhere in the world and you couldn’t notice. Batu Caves are overrated imo - but also very, very dirty.

Great iconic structures like The Twin Towers Petronas, KL Tower to name a few. Lots of souvenirs to buy. Kinokunia as a book store was good to buy collectibles. Aquaria was worth it too with ample under water species on display especially the tunnel. Transport was easy, infact taxis were not that expensive. We did try Dodol and Durian, found'em decent ! Amazing experience !

The most beautiful, convenient, halal friendly place ever! If you are in Asia and want to visit a place that is equally modern and have pleasant nature, then KL, and Malaysia in general, is the place for you! The public transportation system is gold!!! It is remarkably diverse too in terms of people, religion and culture!

I have travelled to Malaysia and KL so many times over the years, and have got used to its ways. I always look at KL as being two cities, firstly it is a city of modern skyscrapers with people living and working within the highrise buildings, however, to me it is also a Lampong Village as the locals and tourists eat and relax at the ground level. Transport is good around the city with very little trouble getting to all the tourist sites, Lastly, the range of food from Asian to Western food is well scattered for with Jalan Alor just a short walk from Jalan Bukit Bintang being crowded with Westen and Asian eating together across the range of food outlets.

Kuala Lumpur has great food and with reasonable price, shopping is also great because there is various great and nice shopping malls/centers, major sightseeing places/tourist attractions are not far away from the city center. Its weather is humid hot (hot is normal but it combines with humidity then is different thing)
