Nestled in the far-flung southern corner of Poland, Zakopane rests under the shade of the mighty Tatras Mountains. Skiers flock to this city to enjoy winter sports, while leisure travellers are often found nibbling on ‘Oscypek’, smoked cheese native to this region.
The snow-capped peaks of the Gubałówka attract skiers from all over the world during winters. On your Zakopane holiday, brace yourself for a steep uphill ride on the Gubałówka Hill Funicular to reach the summit and enjoy breathtaking views of the city and the Tatras. Kasprowy Wierch is another pristine winter ski area that blends with the clouds and lends its snowy slopes for skiing and snowboarding. During summertime, you can explore the hiking trails paved through the alpine wilderness of the Tatra National Park.
This city is characterised by the Zakopane Style of architecture, drawing inspiration from folk art and Poland’s highland region – Podhale. The wooden chalets dotted around the city, built on the cusp of the 20th century, owe their distinctiveness to the genius of Stanisław Witkiewicz. You can visit the Museum of Zakopane Style at Villa Koliba and Jaszczurówka Chapel to admire the design intricacies of this architectural style on your Zakopane trip.

Zakopane is a perfect place to stay before your mountain trips. You have plenty of places to spend a night in, to eat, and to buy what's needed. It is the core center of the transport connection to smaller villages/nature locations as well. Don't stay only in Zakopane though! Go and see the natural beauty around you. Zakopane is a "port" to me, not the destination.

I love it the! Ideally located for mountain lovers wanting different levels of engagement:) It’s good for the beginners in hiking or people that just want to walk a bit and otherwise chill in in the thermal baths or use cable cars to access the peaks. Zakopane it’s fantastic for those that like skiing, winter sports but also proper hiking, mountaineering or trail running. The routes are very well marked and there is a phone reception almost everywhere in the national park. The city itself offers really good connections to the starting points of all the routes, buses are plenty, many options and reasonably priced. Shops are open very early and stay open until 23 which is very useful. You can get there both by bus, train or a car. There are plenty spots to rent bikes and cycling routes are also well marked. I love it! Maybe what could be improved would be a centralised information for tourists that could be easily accessible. One can find all the information When searching for it but for the lazy souls it would be helpful to have it all in one place :)

It is a great city with a lot of things to do, from Snowlandia, the Zoo to Dino Park, upside-down house and the wonderful thermal baths. Best try the local restaurants located in the city center. It is easy to get around by car and even by foot.

A hidden gem of a city in Poland with a great ski resort. Access to the resort will be improved once the road works and car parking works are completed. Fantastic main arcade with great restaurants and bars.

If you get away from the hustle it is a great place with a lot of outdoor possibilities.Sometimes it can feel like a market where everybody is trying to sell something but it is a great starting place for trips.

When I go to a mountain resort at the end of February, I expect to see white. It was green. This was just a recce for skiing next year. I won't return here to ski. And walking up Kasprowy Wierch was a nice day, but the slush underfoot says that it's a no go ski area. Beautiful town. Not for skiing.
