New York City is somewhere that feels familiar before you even visit. Countless films and TV shows are shot here, so when we see the trademark yellow taxi cabs, the hot dog vendors or the dazzling lights of Manhattan, there's a strange sense of déjà vu. It's also home to what is arguably the world's most famous skyline, dominated by the Art Deco marvel of the Empire State Building. Constantly reinventing and setting new trends in fashion, food and art, the city is also a major hub for finance and trade, with the famous Wall Street at its core.
The city is split into the boroughs of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and Staten Island, and each has its own unique character. Manhattan Island is home to the trendy neighbourhoods of Greenwich Village and SoHo, while Brooklyn features a Botanic Garden, the New York Aquarium and the famous Coney Island. A ferry from Battery Park to Ellis Island offers a great opportunity for some incredible views of the city, before reaching the fascinating Immigration Museum. You'll also sail past the iconic Statue of Liberty, with plenty of time to snap photos from all angles.
The city's Broadway shows are second to none, with a variety of major musicals proving the pick of the bunch. The giant green oasis of Central Park offers a perfect spot for a peaceful stroll, as well as featuring lakes, theatres and ice-skating rinks.
New York is served by three major airports: JFK, Newark Liberty International and LaGuardia, with public transport options available at each one.

plan your attractions, good map available in hotel...
26 April 2024
plan your attractions, good map available in hotel reception we allowed a couple of days at the end to just stroll and shop, rather than go full on ! easy to use the subway stations and its cheap, just tap card for entry use the free ferry to Staten Island,to see Statue of Liberty, the outlet shopping is not very good walk the High Line, fantastic views and get to the other districts down town Central Park is close to the hotel and worth a visit walk over Brooklyn Bridge! we didn't bother with a show on Broadway, very expensive, the q's for tickets of the day were about 1-2 hours (half price but not guaranteed good seats) the food!!good breakfast fast food ,bagels etc but expensive evening food ,restaurants very expensive for what i would call average foodie found a noodle bar down 51st street which was like food court inside not obvious from the facade but very good and reasonably priced Tipping is expected (they say 20%! but we did 10%)even on drinks at the bar happy hour good value in Irish bars Overall a fantastic week to celebrate a 70th birthday would i visit again?? perhaps for a shorter time as i wouldn't need to visit all the places we travelled April it was cold some days bit of rain and some sun i don't think i would go in the summer it would be too uncomfortable thanks for reading!

Enjoyed seeing all the landmarks I’d only seen in the movies or on tv. The subways were a challenge but we only got lost a couple of times. I have a wheelchair and a lot of the entrances and exits did not have an elevator. My son had to carry wheelchair up/down steps and I had to go very slowly holding on to handrail.
Everyone must experience at least an overnight in NYC!
25 April 2024
Everyone must experience at least an overnight in NYC! The excitement and liveliness is unmatched! Take in a theatre show! Go for family style Italian at Tony Di Napoli's and stay at the Manhattan Times Square Riu! It's a great place for fun and excitment, afterall, it's the city that never sleeps!
Plenty of things to do.
24 April 2024
Plenty of things to do. Be prepared to have good walking shoes ! Take an itinerary before you go as there is so much to see & do. Cannabis now legalised which we didn’t like as it smelt so strong when walking about. We found some people were quite rude especially venues like cafes, coffee shops & the airport. Hotel staff all pleasant though.

It is busting, live and a somewhat untidy city.
23 April 2024
It is busting, live and a somewhat untidy city. It is a must if you have never been there, not so much for the sightseeing but for the life of the city itself. The Museums all very good and worth visiting, shopping, the park, broadway and many more
