About San Antonio

Including tips for the best time to visit San Antonio

Historical landmarks, modern attractions and cultural offerings are just a few of the many reasons that make San Antonio a popular place to visit in Texas, USA.

San Antonio is home to two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, The Alamo and San Antonio Missions National Historical Park. At The Alamo – a former Spanish mission and the site of a historic battle in 1836 – you can learn about the history of Texas Revolution through interactive displays and guided tours. San Antonio Missions National Historical Park is spread across a large area that comprises four missions established by Spanish Catholic priests in the 18th century. Four out of the five original missions still remain and you can explore their churches, compounds and other structures.

On your San Antonio holiday, set aside some time to visit the River Walk. This famous promenade along the San Antonio River is lined with shops, restaurants, museums and scenic nature spots. Just a short distance away is Hemisfair Park that offers a range of things to do – recreation areas, dining and entertainment options, Yanaguana Garden and the Tower of the Americas, which provides panoramic city views. You can also embark on unique tours across the city like ghost and street art tours and cruises on the San Antonio River.

There are several theme parks to choose from in San Antonio. SeaWorld San Antonio has adventurous rides and live shows while Six Flags Fiesta Texas offers fast roller coasters. LEGOLAND Discovery Center San Antonio is worth a visit too.

We really enjoyed our stay in San Antonio!

6 June 2023

We really enjoyed our stay in San Antonio!! The day we arrived we want to the Riverwalk, and we did the river cruise, and had a great dinner at one of the Tex Mex restaurants! It was just so beautiful, and the whole area had a great atmosphere! We also spent one day in Fiesta Texas, which was lots of fun, and one morning visiting The Alamo, which was very educating and interesting! I really recommend it as a city!

We loved going downtown to the Riverwalk and especially loved riding scooter downtown. Aquatica at SeaWorld is a good way to spend the day with the kids but definitely recommend buying the All-day dine if you stay all day. Round 1 by Northstar mall was a favorite of my kids, it's a arcade with a bowling alley and a karaoke room and many other activities including Japanese claw games, hundreds of them! So many good restaurants we could never fit them all in one trip Rudy's BBQ was our favorite barbecue, although we ate at Bill Miller's because of the price, too many Mexican places to name, but Willie's ice house and grill is always my favorite place to go when I go to San Antonio.

River walk was good, would have love to have information about what is around there. But every information booth, was just trying to push their agenda. Some live music venue missed out on a large tab, because I couldn’t find them. Had a great time, great weather around memorial day in San Antonio. More tropical than I thought. Lots of palm trees and lots of people if you are into that kind of thing. Visited the caves outside of town, well worth it on the way in or out of you are driving. I would stay close the main loop on the river walk, Wyndham is at least a 30 minute brisk walk.

I love San Antonio! There is always something to do. Such a big place with so many attractions and restaurants. If you try something new every visit you will never be bored. If you need a new food spot, small whole in the wall type place try one of these places: Blanco Cafe Thousand Oaks Cafe Josephine Street Cafe

25 May 2023

My husband and I, as well as two new friends we met from Stuttgart, Germany, agreed that a day and a half, two days at most, is appropriate for San Antonio. The main attraction, outside of The Alamo, seems to be the River Walk District. We chose to take an Uber to visit some sites outside of the main San Antonio attraction district like The Pearl and The San Antonio Farmers Market. The River Walk District can be a bit touristy - especially with chain restaurants and bars. If you have families, you might choose to take a drive to the five other Missions, the San Antonio Zoo and Six Flags. We recommend taking in some of the local culture at the San Antonio Farmers Market and enjoying a lazy Sunday at The Pearl District (which has a small farmers market, green spaces for eating food from surrounding restaurants and pop-ups, and interesting shopping). Take in some LOCAL (not chain) restaurants for great food and take long walks around San Antonio -- researching the great city history.
