Holiday Inn Reading South M4 Jct 11, an IHG Hotel, hotel in Reading

Holiday Inn Reading South M4 Jct 11 offers air-conditioned rooms, just off junction 11 of the M4 motorway. It is 3.2 km south of Reading’s town centre, railway station and university.

Everything was good wish they had been a fridge in my room. The kettle took forever to boil that’s was one downside about it almost 4mins to boil. Hotel was quiet and clean appropriate for business and mature travellers. A softer pillow will do than the standard soft you have, I felt the ones you claim soft were still too thick .

Malmaison Reading, hotel in Reading

This unique residence is a modern reworking of the Great Western Hotel, built in 1844 and reputed to be the oldest surviving railway hotel in the world.

The wonderfully warm and understanding greeting by the receptionist - full of understanding [one of us had injured his knee in walking from Oxford to Reading over the previous 3 days], and clear explanation of why it was beyond her's or Malmaison's powers to cancel his room given that he had to return home for treatment. And she then asked after my friend when I checked out the morning after.

FAQs about hotels in Reading

Work and Play Beside the Thames

At the meeting point of the Thames and Kennet rivers, affluent Reading is close to London, yet far enough to feel completely different. For this reason it is an important business hub, particularly for IT. The M4 motorway runs directly from here to Heathrow Airport, and trains from its station terminate at Paddington.

The town has literary connections to Jane Austen – whose school was in the Abbey Gateway – and Oscar Wilde, who was imprisoned in its jail. Nowadays, the Reading Festival is its biggest cultural event and has earned a place in the town hall museum. However, its most impressive exhibit is a replica of the Bayeux Tapestry.

The Reading shopping options include Broad Street and The Oracle, a riverside complex also housing bars, cinemas and restaurants. The river continues south to one of the town’s green spaces, some housing golf courses. Forbury Gardens features a bandstand and large lion statue, and next door are ruins of an abbey founded by Henry I.

Potential day trips include the Roman remains at Silchester, and river cruises to Henley-on-Thames, while sport lovers should visit the Madejski Stadium, home of Reading FC and London Irish rugby club.

Booking.com’s Reading accommodation includes hotels with spas, cheap apartments and guest houses with parking.

In truth, I didn't visit Reading for the town itself, but to see my daughter who lives in a flat there. We drove around for a short while, so that we could see some shops and eat out somewhere. We had a short stop on a barge to have a nice cup of tea then later ate at The Oracle in a Japaneese restaurant called OSAKA at Unit 16, Riverside Level. OSAKA had a really good vibe as well as good food ;-) I didn't find Reading particularly interesting, as it somehow felt like a jumble of concrete buildings and roads. No doubt it has some hidden treasures, like the barge we found to have tea on - which needed to be booked. It has to be said that I didn't have many hours there at all, therefore, nothing was espeically planned.

The town and the major roads into it are extremely busy. Lots of traffic lights and some complex junctions and lane changing. We did not stop in the town centre because that was not the object of our visit. The golf course looked tempting but that will have to wait for another time.

I am familiar with Reading, but, for those not so familiar, the area can be a little noisy, to be expected, given the central location. Everything is on your doorstep. Shops, clubs, etc. Never lack of anything to do, places to check out, shops, etc. Eateries to suit all tastes and budgets!

We love the Forbury Gardens and Reading Abbey. We had an excellent meal at "Veeno's" near The Forbury which serves fabulous authentic Italian food and the atmosphere is unbeatable. The evening was completed with a visit to "High Spirits" in Kings Walk. It serves the most wonderful and imaginative cocktails in the whole of Reading. The staff are very knowledgeable and personable and service is swift and courteous. Highly recommended.

No faults with my stay at the hotel. I got a huge and comfortable bed, four pillows, a great bathroom with a great shower. Breakfast was a highlight, lots of different options from the buffet. Internet worked pretty well, I was able to stream some TV shows without a problem. I enjoy the location of the hotel, you can reach pretty much everything on the town centre in just a couple of minutes walking.

Excellent service, the rooms were incredible and the cleanliness was fantastic. Loved the rooms decor and the coffee/ tea supplies were replenished every day, with fresh new towels etc. Such a wonderful stay I cancelled my booking in a 5 Star hotel in Reading which was awful (messy rooms, no air con etc. etc.), and went back to the Market House for a second time! Also, the air con is great!!

The location was where we wanted to be which was close to the twon centre. The hotel is easy to find and has plenty of parking. Our room was comfortable and not cramped. The bed standard meant that we slept well. We paid for breakfast and had a good traditional cooked meal. There were alternatives. Reading South is very close to the M4 and an ideal location for Heathrow or going into London. The car park is huge, the bar and restaraunt adequate for the size of the hotel, and the check in staff fact and efficient. It is easy to get to Reading Centre by taxi and also ideal for Reading FC. All told, a brilliant location and hotel.

This is a budget hotel, so the space is minimal, but we used it for a one night stopover and it was suitable for that. The shower was excellent and a decent size and the bed is comfortable. The staff booked a taxi for us and recommended a nearby café for breakfast- The Gorge which was enjoyable and good value.
