Christchurch surprised me.
Christchurch surprised me.
The weather was lovely in Autumn when I visited.
If its a walking holiday you like your in luck here. Everything is within walking distance!
Hagley Park & Gardens in Autumn was without doubt the highlight. You must make time to explore it & that will take a day or two. You will not be disappointed with the Iiex Cafe delicious coconut cake with fresh raspberries! Eat it outside in the sun before you venture off to the Botanic & Rose Gardens.
The city itself is so quaint & easy to walk around or hop on & off the regular trams that rattle through the streets. After all that walking around you'll need to replenish at The Riverside Markets - a great place for a food tour with wine & whiskey too!
The CoCA Gallery & CHCH Art Gallery are lovely as is wandering around the cultural centre in that area & onto Worcester Boulevard.
Do dine at Fiddlesticks in the evening if you get the chance ...yum!
Must go to Little High & if pizza is your thing do not go past the pizza there!

It should be compulsory to visit the Quake Museum to understand why there are so many vacant lots. Christchurch is a modern city, extremely clean and everyone we talked to, is proud to live there. A must to visit are the Riverside Markets, The Church Brew Pub [a new experience!], the Art Gallery, the Arts Centre, take the bus to Lyttleton, a small fishermen village and, if possible, take the TranzAlpine train to Greymouth. We gave the trams a miss as we could walk everywhere from our accommodation but it is a fantastic way to see Christchurch from the comfort of the seat.

I was based in Hornby for my 3-day stay.
I was based in Hornby for my 3-day stay. The motel I used was perfectly placed for everything I needed to do, next to a lovely park and with easy access to restaurants and the Hub mall facilities for shopping. I wish I'd had a bit more time to explore how the city centre has changed since I was last there, but not this trip.

I spent 4 months in NZ and for various reasons and at different times, stayed about 9 nights/days in Christchurch, alone and also with my husband. We loved the vibe of the city. It felt a happy place, offering everything a city has to offer but in an intimate way. It felt safe, clean and it was lovely to see families enjoying the public bbqs and spaces. Lots of greenery and parks. A place that felt traditional yet new. Great places to eat, drink and watch the world go by. Really loved this place and I am not a city person! Riccarton House and gardens was a highlight. There are plenty of places around to explore for day trips too and the second hand bookshops in Ferry Road area are the least expensive I have come across in NZ! Could definitely keep going back there, even just for the hospitality and genuine friendliness of the locals.

Our visit was shorter than we would of liked but I fully recommend the International Antarctic Centre - children loved it and we could of stayed longer, informational, fun, interactive and lots to do, husky puppy was gorgeous and Matua who greeted us was informative and korero was refreshing. The cafe was great and again even the children found food they liked.
We went to Build-a-Bear to create a keepsake of our trip and that was a fun activity - Mall was open to 9pm so we were able to pop down and not rush.
The Outlet Store for new Crocs - a must for Croc addicted children.
Christchurch Tram Tour - Is a must-do. (We have done this tour previously and were disappointed to not be able to go this visit)
Christchurch Library (Tūranga) - Interactive and fun, friendly people.
We had hired a Campervan to travel in and there was a lot of areas that you could park a Camper so that was great for us to pull over and walk around.
We didn't do as much sightseeing as we would have liked but we have decided to book again for a few more days there as we spent more time in Dunedin then we expected.
We did miss going to Cookie Time as traffic was horrendous so that needs to be planned better for our next time down there.
We were picked up only 5 min after a call to the Sudima. Van driver was friendly and helpful, considering it was after midnight , we were impressed. Check in was easy. Room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and we were well rested and ready to start our holiday, we were even offered a lift back to the airport to collect our hire car. Driver Ken gave us lots of advice for our trip. This hotel so close to the airport and way cheaper than any other accomodation I looked up, we were beyond impressed.
Modern contemporary feel, very convenient and close to the airport. The modern Euro interior design gives it a feeling of a hotel many stars above what it really is. We were literally in our room from the plane in 15 minutes. Rooms are well appointed with wonderful views of the airport tarmac. It was nice that the toilet is separate from the shower, helps a lot with a family of 4, so that one person is not holding up the rest! Complimentary water bottles were a nice touch!
The hotel is close to Christchurch airport and provides a free shuttle bus service. The room was a good size with all amenities, and quiet despite being adjacent to the main road from Christchurch to the airport. The restaurant/bar area was pretty basic in it's layout but the food was good without being exceptional.
Staff were very friendly and efficient.
The whole experience was better than expected and good value for money
Great stay at Urbanz last night. I was finishing a contiki tour in Christchurch so booked a double room. I was really happy with the spacious room, bathrooms were just outside and showers. Was really quiet in the room considering I was in room 117 beside the door to the kitchen and hallway. Showers were powerful and warm, bathroom facilities good. Cheaper than a hotel but 4 star hotel standards! Would definitely stay again.
Orari Boutique Hotel is a lovely old house close to everything Christchurch has to offer. Staff were very welcoming upon our arrival and were very helpful. We sat outside on the front porch with a complementary class of wine which was a very nice touch! Breakfast was more on the continental side but very lovely and a great way to start your day. The house itself and garden were beautiful!
It is a beautiful location, close to the botanical Gardens and the Hagley Gardens.
They held my baggage after checkout, so I was free to enjoy Christchurch for a few more hours without being encumbered by my suitcase.
Close to public transport to the airport.
The number 3 bus is just a 5 mins walk near the corner of Riccarton and Bartlett Streets / Thai Orchard restaurant.
Hotel is very close to the centre of Christchurch and across the street from Great Regent Street. Lots of eateries closeby and a short walk across Cathedral Square to the Avon River and the bars and eateries located along the River. The room was spotlessly clean and modern. Good sized bathroom with lovely toiletries. We had views towards the town from the 10th floor.
Budget hotel near airport - about 20min walk from room to departure lounge....less if you don't have luggage. Half the walk had covered area. If it rains may be a problem.
Good for early morning flights. Countdown and mall was just next door. The mall had good selection of restaurants (Chinese, Mexican, Burger and Cafe) and fast foods (McD, KFC, Subway)
Beautiful room in this new feeling hotel. Easy walk from the airport for an overnight. We just used the room so no comment on meals etc. Room was clean, beds were amazing and lovely shower/toilet area. Not particularly cheap but worth it for accessability when our plane landed and then to get picked up by our hire car shuttle at the door in the morning
Everything it was wonderful. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The room was so big and roomy. We had to stay longer as we didn't want to leave. Spa bath was small but great to have after a hard day of exploring Christchurch. Both the restaurants on the ground floor had nice food.
The Hotel is within walking distance to the Riccarton Mall.
The shuttle from the airport was quick to arrive and front desk staff were excellent. Food in the restaurant was excellent but the staff didn’t engage much except our waitress in the evening. Thinking of changing our hotel reservation to this hotel when we return from our trip around the island.
The Riccarton Hotel is in a great location, it has recently been refurbished. There are many good places to eat nearby, and it is a short walk to Hagley Park, close to the city centre, plus not too far from the airport.
The managers are friendly and helpful.
Location is good, near to restaurants, supermarket and mall. Near Botanic garden and city center, Short drive to Christchurch Airport. Hotel room is clean and spacious but is dated. Kitchen well equip and meet our need. Good parking space.
It is located centrally in the Christchuch CBD, close to every attractions within the city such as the Riverside Market Place, Botanical Garden etc. Also, it is the biggest hotel in the Christchurch CBD. Highly recommended!
Very nice hotel. Modern, new, clean rooms and facilities. Excellent hot breakfast with good variety.
Room has mini frig, air con, safe, Very close to airport. Perfect place to sat when flying in or out from Christchurch.
Very nice, clean and modern apartment. Has everything we needed. Location is also great allowing easy access to the CBD area by walk. Great value option for visitors at Christchurch.
