Great little town ... great Cafe ..... Two Birds for breakfast ... and pub The Terminus for dinner (they have different specials each night). the murals around town are exquisite.... EVERYTHING is shut by 9pm so make sure you don’t need any supplies ... but that is country towns for you .. Petr9l cheaper there than what we are paying at home.... Quirky wares for sale at Two Birds .. and good strong coffee ... well worth calling in ... they have daily specials ... once sold out that’s it. Roads are good . Wide and clean . Clear skies and the stars are magical wit( little ambient light
At the moment the Coonamble area is looking very green and thankfully optimistic. The painted water silo is spectacular - mixing local bird life, amazing sunsets, aboriginal heritage. One of the best we've ever seen. Termo Hotel restaurant was fabulous - very busy which mean meals came slowly, but worth the wait. The hand made gnocchi was 5**** - best I've ever tasted. Staff very friendly and accommodating.
Thats's likely an unfair question as Coonamble has suffered from the social and commercial degradation that has occurred in most small Australian inland country towns over the last 40-50 years as more reliable motor cars and better roads enabled locals to shop for a wider and sometimes cheaper price of available goods in large regional centres, e.g. Dubbo. Also, having been a 'local' in my youth, I am also more aware of the surrounding sights and activities than does the average traveller. The resident people, i.e both townspeople and surrounding farmer/graziers, are what gives character to any town, so a preparedness to interact with the "locals" is what will provide travellers with a more meaningful experience.
