It is a city rich with cultural life, science, history, gastronomy. The center is easily covered by feet, and some neighborhoods are worth also a walk, particularly Das Viertel, Schnoor and The University Quarters with its great Science Center Universum. I also recommend a visit to the the Space Center, in the southern side of the river. Public transportation is very good. For lunch I totally recommend the Markthalle 8 or the famous Ratskeller Restaurant.
Beautiful city in northern Germany. Don't miss the old city center, take your time to taste the good food and good (and for me the best) German beer. A visit to Beck's factory (reservation needed) is a must!
Great city to see, actually a must when you travel to Germany. We went to Bremen after spending a whole day in Hamburg, from where we live ( Berlin). You will smell the history (and great coffee : ) ) while you wander in the narrow streets, tiny stores, hearing the bell towers. Also, I definitely recommend you to taste Döner (Kismet Doner). We were walking from the Hauptbahnof Bremen to our hotel and just came across with that great taste. Give it a try. 1 day of full walking was barely enough but if you want to explore more, you may need to stay for 2 days. Without questioning which direction to move, just move forward, any part of the old city has something to offer to you.
Bremen is a great example of the Hanseatic city, and once you understand the symbols all around you, of a freedom loving/demanding people. It is not only overflowing with history and sight seeing opps., but also many places to shop, both high end and touristy stuff. The food is good, as in most of the North, and the beer is plentiful. If you are interested in the North of Germany, this is the place to see it in a relaxed atmosphere. Moin!
I liked the city very much and would have liked to stay a little longer and deepen my visit. In addition to the sightseeings that are in all guidebooks, I recommend a couple of small curiosities: - in the St. Petri Cathedral look for the little mouse - on the northern side of St. Petri there is the "spit stone". It is located on the exact spot where G. Gottifried was executed (he had a habit of poisoning people!) and was used to show disgust at him. So it would spit on it. - To the left of the Haus der Bürgerschaft is the "Bremen Hole", a manhole cover/money box. If you insert a coin, you will hear the voice of one of the four Bremen musicians as a sign of thanks.
Schnoor district is the "must see". Spend some money to eat at one of the restaurants in the district to feel athomosphere better. Very comfortable shopping in the city center. Not too big but everything you need you can find there (from books, electronics and furniture to clothes and grocery stores). City lights festival is amazing
