Located in Haines in the Alaska region, Suite 1 Lynn View Lodge has a balcony and mountain views. This holiday home provides free shuttle service and free WiFi. The room was comfortable and homey. The lodge (kitchen and living room) felt as if you were staying in a friend's home. While we didn't utilize them, there were barbecues and picnic tables out front, and fire pits on the beach (right across the street). DirecTV available, plus an assortment of movies available to watch. Cute little red squirrels, hummingbirds just on the other side of the glass windows, and eagles as well as other wildlife in the trees and waterways. The perfect location - between the lake and downtown. The cherry on top, though, was Katy, the caretaker! A bundle of exuberant energy; a new lifelong friend!

Adorable town, full of history. Lots of interesting things to do, to suit every taste & budget. This is a cruise ship stop. When the ships are in port, the town gets crazy crowded. And the jewelry store hawkers are menacing. Lots of pretty shiny things, though!
Everything you need in town is in walking distance downtown, but if you want to explore you can take the train, or rent a car and drive into Canada. The town makes gold rush history come alive. We arrived and left by the Alaska State Ferry, which I also recommend you check out, The town does close up early because the schedule is bases on the cruise ship crowd.
A good three day stop, a good balance of touristy, historic and outdoorsy. We especially enjoyed the Chilkat Guides hike on the Chilkoot Trail, float down the Taiya River and drive to White Pass, Canada, a great afternoon with guide Alohi. Also enjoyed the visitor center with all the history of the Klondike Gold Rush. A cute town, easily walkable, pretty crowded when 4 cruise ships are in town. We aren’t much interested in t shirts and jewelry, so mostly skipped that part. They had great fun free activities all over town on July 4th; corn hole contests and the parades were fun and folks really got into it with crazy outfits, bands and dancing in the street, all in all, a lot of fun.
It's an awesome town with the mountains and historic buildings. But the thousands of cruise ship crowds made being in town like downtown New York, ruining the ambience of a historic little town. Sorry it's turned into a "Made in China" souvenir tourist shop town. UGH
Spend a little time in Skagway as there is a great feel to the town. Loved the historic feel of the buildings. The brothel is worth a visit as it provides insight into the women who worked in those conditions. The Train trip on the Yukon Rail was good. Also a visit to the cemetery is worth the time. Talk to the locals.
