I had a nice, peaceful week at the Casa da Almoinha. Its chalet-like wooden interior, tastefully decorated to reflect the region, opens up onto a huge wooden terrace from which you can see the river literally flowing in the backyard. The breakfast (actually it’s a brunch) is so copious, with lots of local produce, that it’s impossible to finish it all! And Margarida is a wonderful host who helps her guests to discover the region by accompanying them on walking trails, and even joining them on a highly original visit to a nearby mine!

Stunning location, hidden away but still very accessible. Wonderful hostess who couldn't have done more to make us feel welcome. Very comfortable beds, quality furnishings/decor and spacious, well equipped bathroom. Various living areas to relax in with wonderful warm log burners and great views. Breakfast was delicious, with quality ingredients, and plentiful.

The owner was lovely and the room was very clean with a large comfortable bed. The main bonus was her lovely way with guests. You get an authentic experience of mountain village life. It is central to everything with some beautiful walks. Great value

I travel a lot and I have to admit that I also am a rather demanding guest. Casa nas Hortas fulfilled all my expectations. Normally I never give a 10, but I could not find anything wrong... so I give a 10! The hospitality was also amazing: I arrived as a guest, and left as a friend!

Paul and Sergio looked after us so well. Friendly and very attentive. The breakfast is insane.... Awesome cheese and meats and then breakie food too and cakes... Will fill you up until dinner. We ended up eating here every night of our stay too as it was yummy, convenient and we'd be knackered from hikes... Watch out for Gin Tonica... Its lovely and strong! The room is very comfy and warm, the bed also. Huge carpark. Big restaurant and outdoor space to enjoy the sunshine. Great location for a four day stay as there were 4 walks we wanted to do in the area. Torre is less than 15 mins drive. 110% recommend. We really loved our stay!

Experience to recommend and repeat. breakfast is well served in a basket. The room was comfortable, the facilities were clean and the view from the Ursa Major room was beautiful. Check-in and check-out easy as well.

The place we booked was closed due to some technical issues, but the commitments and booking was taken over by the hotel owner's relative and she accommodated us in her hotel, which was right across the road. So my review is about her hotel. Our room was super cool, I really liked the room style and furniture. In our room we had a crib, so it looks like families with small kids are also welcome. The room was warm and did not have any side smell (though it was a rainy season and some other accommodations in our trip had this musty smell), the bed linen was white and super fresh. Aside from the room itself, I also liked the view to the valley from our window. The hotel also has a restaurant with a-la carte and very decent food and drinks. Though the restaurant is downstairs we were not bothered by any loud noises. The hotel is a pick for those, who are aiming to visit National Park Serra da Estrela. I recommend staying in this hotel.
