An exquisite stay in Shirakawago after a day of exploring. Hotel is modern while retaining touches of local tradition and culture. Staff are kind and friendly and some speak decent english. The free haoris and yukatas offer great photo ops. Both dinner and breakfast feel luxurious, even though the fixed menu might not be to everyone’s taste. While the private bath is convenient, the public bath has the best facilities we’ve come across and should not be missed. The room is comfy, has great attention to detail and offers a stunning river/mountain view. Not to be missed if you have the budget. Take advantage of its facilities and plan around the stay instead of rushing towards the village at first light.

I've never done the Ryokan experience before, and it was great to enjoy the onsen and wear a yukata to a dinner (which had more than 20 different things to eat!). The location was perfect, not even 50 meters from the bus station and with a gorgeous view of the river.

Simply take a bus from Kanazawa Station, but ensure to book in advance during busy seasons. The room was clean, and there was a kitchen where you could cook your food, with a grocery store just a 1-minute walk away. They provided enough groceries to fill your tummy, such as bread, butter, milk, coffee, curry, rice, etc. Highly recommended for the value of money. The main street is only a 5-minute walk from the hotel.
