The staff is lovely and helped us out werever they could. Would definitly go back if we are at mafia island in the future.

At the accommodation rooms are fitted with bed linen and towels. The staff are great, making sure we had the best time there. They helped organise trips out around the island putting us at ease. The rooms are spacious with WiFi and air con. The food was good too.

Lovely small property with very personal service, really great standard of accommodation, big room, great shower, nice pool, extremely accommodating staff. Excellent overall. A bicycle rental service is available at the lodge. When looking for a genuine, immersive and take it is experience Kitu Kiblu is a great choice to take. We spent a wonderful week there and are enthusiastic of all facilities and people; everything is exactly as described in the profile. Accomodations could be choosene to be more discreet (on the trees) or more common and we strongly suggest the second option; apart from an incredible quality/price ratio the whole experience deserves to be done! We appreciated so much to have shower in the jungle surronded by palm leafs and accept a rope is the door for the toilet (yes, it's true and frankly speaking all is priceless!!!!). All the description look a bit as only for brave and indeed this "return to the basic" is exaclty what I think it should be experienced to understand we don't need that much to feel happy, just go back to the essential and appreciate!!! People have been very friendly and inclusive and did their best to let us feel welcomed and help for local activities.

Set within 6.6 km of Rufiji Mafia Kilwa Marine Reserve in Kilindoni, Mgeni Homestay features accommodation with seating area. There is a private entrance at the homestay for the convenience of those who stay. There is free private parking and the property offers paid airport shuttle service. Mgeni Homestay was the best value accomodation that we've stayed in during our African travels. While the building itself is basic the rooms have everything you need: comfortable bed and pillows, mosquito net, ceiling fan, somewhere to sit that isn't the bed and places to hang your drying towels (and clothes if you've done some handwashing). Aly was also very helpful at organising excursions and taxis for us, while Bunda cooked fresh, delicious and generous meals (including a good amount of vegetables, which can be hard to come by). The homestay is close enough to the airport that you can walk there if you have packs (not ok for wheelie suitcases) and don't mind a hot walk. The ATMs are also a short walk further than the airport so they are also accessible. We appreciated our stay so much that we returned for second stay before leaving the island.

There is a fully equipped private bathroom with shower and free toiletries. Meremeta Lodge is a very beautiful place in the Western side of Utende. Wonderful rooms and a spectacular lobby/restaurant. The owner is almost always present and super friendly and supportive, as is the rest of the staff. Our room had an AC which was a blessing. Breakfast was self-service but super tasty. Generally, the food was really nice and varied. Well spiced. And super tasty desserts! It is possible to borrow bicycles to get around, which is super helpful as this place is not located directly at the beach. However, you get there really quickly by bike, and the upside to the location is that it is rather quiet.

Chole Mjini Treehouses Lodge offers unique tree house accommodation on Chole Island in the heart of the Mafia Island Marine Park. The property has a dive centre.

The partly open and thatched tree houses are locally crafted and offer magnificent sea views. Each comes with a balcony, seating area and mosquito net. The bathrooms are fitted with a shower. Extras include a safety deposit box, free laundry and morning tea or coffee delivered. An amazing little island with outstanding tree house accommodation. Eco tourism at its finest. Plenty of activities to keep you entertained. Perfect for winding down after doing safari. Definitely worth a visit. The owner has done so much to help the locals which was lovely to see.

Situated in Kilindoni, 7.2 km from Rufiji Mafia Kilwa Marine Reserve, Maisara Mafia Beach Lodge features accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a terrace and a restaurant. With a bar, the property also has a private beach area. The accommodation offers a shared kitchen, room service and currency exchange for guests. Beautiful bungalows with a huge garden directly in front of the beach. All the bungalows have a big glass front where you can see the garden and at some locations the beach. Incredibly nice staff - try to help and accommodate wherever they can. Could change the room without problems as I needed AC to be able to sleep (March can be incredibly hot and humid). Even came back to the hotel after diving on the other side of the island. Everything seems a bit rustic as first but you will definitely fall in love with it. There is a really really nice gift shop with handicrafts on site - really nice woman from the village, definitely one to support. The locations to the beach is super close and to the left there are two more hotels you can go for dinner or a drink. People all know each other on Mafia and help you with everything! :) Breakfast is great!
