The accommodation is 46 km from Ryuoo Ski Park, and guests benefit from private parking available on site and free WiFi. The house was spacious and comfortably furnished. The beds were very comfortable with high quality linen. The villa is close to Lotte Arai resort (about 5 minute drive) and the managers of the villa were extremely helpful in arranging transport for our group with a neighbour, who was charming and helpful. The manager also arranged dinner for us at a local restaurant which usually only offers lunch and this was a very special experience for us. The drying room was excellent for our ski gear. From the house are views of the surrounding rice fields and up to the mountains.

The family that runs the hotel and restaurant are the kindest, most helpful people we have ever met. We were constantly greeted by smiles, asked if we needed help, and our kids were even given gifts when we left.
Akakura Onsen, Myoko
Located in Akakura Onsen village and central to Myoko Ski Resorts, Myoko Ski Lodge in Akakura Village boasts beautiful views over the valley and free WiFi is provided. Features an on-site hot spring bath and a spacious shared lounge with a fireplace for guests to relax. I’d offer an 11th star if Booking.com would let me. The Myoko Ski Lodge is perfectly located and a lovely residence, but the hosts – Geoff and Tania – are what made this a truly amazing trip for us. This was our first time skiing in Japan, and we could not have picked a better spot to stay. It’s walkable to an Akakura Onsen chairlift as well as the free shuttle stop that can take you to Akakura Kanko. The hosts helped us with transport and gear rental on our first day, allowing us to hit the slopes quickly and easily. They also helped the two non-skiers in our group set up interesting activities for the week. Our rooms were very comfortable for our family of five, breakfast was plentiful, and the onsen (natural hot springs) on the first floor were the perfect way to end a day of skiing. The town is lovely, not too big, not too small, and plenty of easy dining options. We were a tiny bit leery of the shared spaces when we booked (as we treasure our privacy), but I’m convinced this is THE way to go for a ski vacation. We made some great friends on the trip and it was so nice to hang out around the fire and share stories over a drink or two with other guests. The kids had a blast and we all enjoyed playing games in the play area/den. It truly felt like a home away from home. I thought a Japan ski trip might be a one-time experience, but I’m convinced that THIS is the way to ski – zero lines, great snow, good food, small town (non-commercialized) feel, onsens, and hosts who seemingly live to share this great experience with their guests. We will be back for sure!

Minami Uonuma
Offering ski-to-door access from Ishiuchi Maruyama Ski Resort, a 1-minute walk away, Allumeur features ski gear rentals and both Japanese/Western rooms. It's a 2-minute drive from Gala Yuzawa Ski Resort. Facilities include drinks vending machines, a souvenir shop and free parking. Allumeur is a very pleasant family hotel located close to the two major resorts - Gala Yuzawa and Ishiuichi Maryama. It is easy to get to from the Ichigo Yuzawa station via cab (2,500 yen) or via shuttle from Ichigo Yuzawa to Gala Yuzawa and then another shuttle to Hatsukaishi station or a taxi (1,500 yen). The hotel if family owned and the owners are very helpful and pleasant people, with plethora of useful information about the area. They even gave us a ride to the food store the first evening, as we arrived unprepared - 7/11 or Lawson stores are not as common in the area as one might expect. There are limited snacks available for purchase at the hotel. The hotel offers breakfast and dinner, as desired for additional fee. We had dinners four nights in a row, and the food was absolutely amazing - some of the best we have had in Japan. Dinner time is very convenient, as it coincides with the time the ski resorts close plus about an hour and a half to return to the hotel and change. The hotel has a room designated to dry the gear and clothing. It also has vending machines that never run out and are true saviors, as both my wife and I are beer drinkers. There is a ski lift at Hatsukaishi station, 300 meters from the hotel and two stores for ski rentals. The indoor/outdoor hot spring bath is about 10 min walking distance from the hotel. A free shuttle from Hatsukaishi station can take you to Ishuichi or Gala Yuzawa, with much larger lifts and more to do. If a car is available, transportation is much faster and convenient. The hotel has a relatively large parking lot available for guests. Of note, the only reliable places for ATM withdrawal using a western issued cards are the 7/11 stores, but again, not too many of them in the entire area. Overall, a perfect hotel for ski/snowboard fans who's priority is to enjoy outdoor sports.

Beautiful property. So convenient, there’s a shuttle bus that will pick you from the train station and daily to/fro ski lifts. Onsens are great to relax in at the end of the stay. location, clean, onsen, shuttle bus
Everything!!! The atmosphere and homey old built house next to the traditional house where we checked in and at breakfast was like the ultimate home away from home. Such a lovely place to stay and really neat layout with the kitchen and hammock reading room on the top floor. It was like having your own little wooden cabin that felt like living in a Studio Ghibli movie. The hosts were wonderful as well and the homemade breakfast exquisite! <3
