Rupanyup has an interesting history and lots of genuine locals happy to engage. We were there in harvest season where it's full-on work, sometimes 20 hours a day. The pub is the place where the issues of the day are discussed, from the weather to the broken down headers. It's real life stuff. A walk around town is worthwhile to catch the atmosphere. Then there's Wood's Farm and Heritage Museum, a huge collection of town history and farm machinery. If you are lucky you'll end up chatting with the founders and builders, Graeme and Bob. And then there's a short drive to the Stick Shed in Murtoa. Don't forget to ask about the night the people from Murtoa, jealous of their rivals in Rupanyup, hoisted the shire hall from its hope in Rup overnight and shifted it to Murtoa!! The silo art trail is just the icing on the cake.
