Sommers Bay Beach House, hotel in Saltwater River

It’s so nice to find a property that is dog friendly. My little 13 yr old boy goes everywhere with us. He has his own bed on the floor and sleeps beside me. Also when you work long hours you just need a break from it all. Sommers Bay Beach House ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️is the place to be.!

The Fox and Hounds Historic Hotel, hotel in Saltwater River

Situated on the waterfront amidst natural landscape, the Fox and Hounds Historic Hotel is a 1-minute drive from Port Arthur Historic Site and a 15-minute drive from Fortescue Bay.

I recently stayed at the Port Arthur Fox&Hound Historical Hotel and my experience was a mix of enchantment and disappointment. Upon arrival, I was captivated by the hotel's romantic ambiance, but the sight of beer ads surrounding the property clashed with the desired atmosphere. Despite this initial setback, the room itself was cozy, featuring a double bed and an additional single bed, complemented by a breathtaking view of the water. During my two-night stay, I noticed that room servicing wasn't provided daily, which might not suit everyone's preferences. Also the Water is mot drikable , so you need to ask for Water Bottles at the Reception. However, the location proved to be a true gem, offering easy access to the Port Arthur historic site, just a five-minute drive away. While the food at the hotel's restaurant was average, the standout feature was undoubtedly the exceptional staff. Their warmth and professionalism added a special touch to my experience, making up for any culinary shortcomings. Overall, the Hotel offers a picturesque setting and convenient proximity to local attractions, but improvements in maintenance and dining quality could elevate the experience to truly match its romantic allure.

The hosts were great, we were able to check in slightly earlier than the check-in time, the following morning Rod took us on a tour of the farm and the kids really enjoyed getting to pat and brush the highland cows and meeting the calfs. Thank you so much for your hospitality.

Larus Waterfront Cottage, hotel in Saltwater River

Larus Waterfront Cottage is located in White Beach, just 15 minutes' drive from Port Arthur. It provides guests with a flat-screen TV, a DVD player and an iPod dock. BBQ facilities are available.

The view from the balcony is exceptional! We pretty much loved everything about this cottage. The property is set up perfectly to have a view wherever you are. It has a nice kitchen stocked with the essentials, and a TV with fun dvds to watch with the family. There is a lovely path down to the water where our kids had a great time looking at shells and hopping on rocks.

Just a tip, it is fairly isolated from major supermarkets. we stocked up in sorell on the way. we drank the tap water and it is fine. All the attractions are 20-30 min car rides from saltwater except the coalmine convict settlement.

Saltwater River is a remote location and will suit those who want to 'get away from everything'. It is a quiet retreat with both beaches and bush. It is driving distance from some of South Tassie's treasures (Port Arthur, Tasman National Park, Fortescue Bay (and some spectacular walks), Remarkable Cave, Tesselated Pavement, Devil's Kitchen, Blowhole). There are very few dining options nearby, so it is best to self-cater. Saltwater River is a relatively sheltered area so good for water sports like paddleboards.

The accommodation was ok for a short stay ,but bed rooms and bathrooms too small for a family , the property was well equipped and clean , Very quiet and scenic and about 15 Km from Port Arthur along a country road and 5Km from the old coal mines . their is no town at saltwater river only a small corner shop as you drive to the accommodation so you have to drive to Port A. or back towards Eaglehawk Neck to find a restaurant or an IGA .
