Stanley is a unique location with a rich history. Staying at the Ship Inn helped us to appreciate this location and its history. Excellent eating places within easy walking distance - Stanley Hotel provided a very enjoyable meal; Hurseys is a must visit with great seafood dishes, with an array of other options. Stanley is very easy to get around both on foot and by car. Only one bowser for petrol provided a challenge, but is easily managed. A great place to visit.

Nicely set up for tourists, with a wide range of accommodation options. A good base for exploring The Tarkine Drive (and some short walks along the route). Stanley has specially designed, red-lit platforms for admiring the little penguins coming ashore in the evenings. There is a nice, wind-swept walk around the top of the Nut, which hosts a colony of pademelon.

Penguin viewing, walking the town and enjoying a great coffee at Marley’s and excellent takeaway fish and chips from Hurseys. We arrived at 8 pm on Day 1. Spent Day 2 visiting the Tarkine area then walked around Stanley. Day 3 we enjoyed the Harvest Market - excellent for fresh produce, craft and music.

Accommodation was superb and pub was just across the road. If we had more time, it looks like a lovely little town to walk around. Definitely take the chair lift instead of walking up the hill. Then you have the energy to walk around the top of The Nut.

Stanley is a beautiful town with lovely houses and places to eat, drink and shop. A trip on the chair lift to the top of The Nut was excellent. Icing on the cake was seeing the little blue o penguins come home after a days’ fishing.

Typical old style hotel room of decent size with a nicely renovated bathroom. Comfortable bed. Centrally located - an easy walk to most places. We had a large balcony off our room with some water views, which was ideal for an evening drink and a take-away breakfast. Dining room menu (lunch and dinner) looked good. Hursey Seafoods is worth a visit for dine in or take away. Chairlift to The Nut summit and walk around is worthwhile for the views. All up, a pleasant stay.

I loved this place! We didnt know what to expect from Stanley, but this hotel made it one of our fav stops in Tassie. The building and the gardens are magnificent. The room was large and fitting with brand new appliances. The communal dinning/ lounge room has everything you could need, including a lux coffee machine. We would of loved to have more time just hanging around the hotel, but there was so much to do in Stanley and the surrounds.

The town of Stanley is quaint and lovely. The apartment was sparkling clean. The views were amazing. There are several decks and sliding glass doors to look out over the sea. Everything is within walking distance. We were able to walk to the sea to look for the penguins at night and see the wallabies on the streets after sunset. The hotel was enjoyable to sit and have a drink and converse with the people in the town.

Touchwood Cottages is our favorite place to stay. With its gorgeous comfortable furnishings and the friendly atmosphere - it’s always a delight. Hosts Greta and Chris know exactly how to make everyone welcome and at home. The food is a celebration of all things Tasmania and the cafe is always buzzing. I’m still dreaming of the warm Raspberry and Fig Tea Cake.

The best part of this place is its incredible view of Stanley. The kids loved the play area where they can play and see some very cute goats nearby. Fast internet, which is unfortunately not too common in Tasmania, felt like a blessing. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom was nice and tidy, and heating was great.

The location at the base of the Nut was a highlight. Within walking distance to the main street and the path to walk up the Nut. The property faces back in to the bay, which one bedroom faces. Lots of nesting birds (quiet at night) and you can see the tide change. Stanley was probably my favourite place in Tasmania.
