The towns - or two conjoined towns - have seen better times.
The towns - or two conjoined towns - have seen better times. A lot of the buildings were either run down or looked empty. The main "business" area is a single street in Clausthal with very few useful shops. Most of them are geared to tourists. The only larger store had to close down when the owner's children decided they didn't want to continue the business. And the traffic seems to be one continuous line down the road, basically using Clausthal-Zellerfeld to get somewhere else . . . The surrounding area on the other hand is very green and is excellent for hiking. There are many bodies of water, many of which can be swum in and I walked for many miles without meeting another soul.

We couldn’t eat at the restaurant as it was temporarily closed, however the breakfast served was very pleasant. Rooms are traditionally furnished, but clean and recently decorated. Parking is around the back of the hotel and is free.
