Harburg is a charming little town in Bavarian Swabia.

Harburg is a charming little town in Bavarian Swabia. Eventually, the old part of the town is very small, the whole can be walked around easily, literally in 20 minutes. Beautiful, picturesque houses, next to which flows the Wörnitz river with clear water, where swans and wild ducks swim and nest in the surrounding grasses and bushes. On the hill above the town stands the medieval Harburg Castle. Built in the 10-11th century, until recently it was privately owned, but since 2000 it belongs to a cultural foundation whose aim is to preserve the castle as a historical asset in the future. There are lovelly views of the river, the town and its surroundings from the castle. With not very high hills and a picturesque river, the area is a beautiful place for rest, cycling, walks in nature. This small town is located right on the so-called "Romantic Road" and is a short distance from other similar places on this road - Donauwürt and Nördlingen, for example, which are beautiful small towns also and have their past going back centuries.

    What a fantastic location.

What a fantastic location. I am always looking for areas with Castles and historic villages. I picked this hotel because of the price & rating, I go from area to area on the booking.com website until I find something that is close to where I want to be or on the way to where I am going. I was more than pleasantly surprised when I arrived here. Not far from here are also several monasteries as well as the famous "Sissi Schloss". Just walking around the castle and the historic village of Harburg can take up a whole day. A real gem. The Hotel Restaurant Straussen where I stayed had great food.

The Hotel Restaurant Staussen is a hidden gem. Exceptional value for money. We stayed for one night and also reserved a table for our evening meal in the restaurant too. Our room was immaculately clean and so comfortable. We enjoyed our meal in the very busy and popular restaurant. I’d recommend reserving your table. Breakfast was a buffet - help yourself to breads, cheeses, ham, delicious yoghurts, fruit, eggs, juices, tea, coffee. perfect to start our day. A perfect, good value, overnight stop, if touring the romantic road.

You’ll get an entire floor for yourself of a house which is by the river. Excellent value for money without compromising on privacy. It has a fully functional kitchen which is very handy if you’re staying a bit longer because there aren’t many restaurants in Harburg and they close early. The host is very friendly and welcoming as well. We stayed only one night as we were in transit and we regretted not having booked it for longer which would have allowed us to enjoy the garden and the view. You’ll enjoy your stay.

We stayed here for my son’s birthday. While the facilities weren’t as up-to-date as most modern hotels, the fact that we were staying in a 12th century castle more than made up for the outdated features. The beds were comfortable, and, even though there was no air conditioning, the breeze through the windows made the temperature comfortable as well. Our dinner at the restaurant was delicious, and breakfast was good as well.

The location and the hospitable staff. The breakfast have a good selection of bread, cheese and cold cuts. You get your own thermos with hot drinks on the table and it is such a treat not having to run up and down for refills. It was possible to have cappuccino or other varieties of coffe as well. They have a very nice veranda overlooking the village square. Easy to park the car outside the hotell.

We had a lovely welcome from the owners. This isn't a five star hotel, and, of course it doesnt claim to be. Our room was quite small and quirky, but it was clean and comfortable. We didn't have dinner in the hotel but the menu looks good and the breakfast was really excellent. It felt quite exciting to stay within the walls of a real castle. We would definitely recommend this hotel for a short stay.

Very Nice hotel in the river side. We had a room with a view to the river, which was very nice. Staff was very welcoming and spoke good english. They have a nice balcony over the river to have a beer after a long day. If you need, they store bikes in a closed room. Beautiful view of the castle from the bridge next to the hotel. We loved to stay a night in this little town.
