The hotel is an attractive old building situated in a small village surrounded by hills and mountains, I'm thinking of going back sometime to do some walking in the countryside around the village. We were travelling North to catch the ferry to Portsmouth from Santander and wanted an overnight stop within easy reach of Santander. The hotel is about 5 minutes off the A67 motorway, so access is quite easy. Fernando on reception was friendly and helpful. He kept apologising for his poor English, but it was good enough for us to easily understand him. The room was tastefully decorated and had a good view from the window. Breakfast was self service with typically Spanish items available, more than adequate.

I cannot rate the hotel staff - all of them - highly enough they were all exceptional. Lovely boutique hotel with pool and well appointed restaurant. This is a small town and parking was it a premium so the underground car park - €12 a day was worth it.
Residence to the ‘Marquis of Santillana’ back in the 15th century, the building has now been carefully renovated into this delightful 5-star hotel.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were made to feel very at home. The hotel was impressively decorated in a classic style with seating areas both in and outside which were very comfortable and suitable for quiet drinks and lounging/reading after a day out. The room was spacious and well-decorated with comfortable seating and a very large comfortable bed. Breakfast was buffet style offering a large selection, with hot food (e.g. scrambled eggs with bacon) made to order.

This hotel is a true gem, everything was perfect. The property is nestled in the picturesque medieval town of Santillana del Mar. Great breakfast, cozy atmosphere, spotless rooms, charming interiors. The location is ideal for wandering around the town, and there are incredible views of the countryside from the terrace. Our host, Rafa, was the absolute best! All in all, a stay we won't forget :)
