Make sure you bring binoculars! The boat trips enabled us to see lots of birds as well as the hippos. There are colobus monkeys around the lodge area itself (easy to see) and the evenings by the lake shore were great. The staff provided us with torches and lights - essential because the resort is off-grid (no main electricity).
