Excellent location by the train station and the city centre.
Hosts were also welcoming, chatty, and friendly.
Breakfast was excellent. We had a really good time, and we'll be back next time we visit Niort.

Fabulous place to stay for a few nights. very quiet village with plenty of restaurants and cafes. if you love walking, plenty of trails to follow and a ride in one of the punts through the Coulon glades of the Marais Poitevin in what they call their "embarcaderes" is an absolute must! once visited, never forgotten!

Beautiful small town on the Marais, called the Green Venice (in French). Lovely waterside with cafes and shops on a network of small waterways with boats for hire. A number of attractive places to eat, nice local market and shops with local crafts and produce.

I booked for 3 nights in Coulon to explore Le Marias. When I arrived I really thought I'd blown it and we'd be bored after 1 day. Absolute opposite. If you love slowly paddling through beautiful back waters, meandering on bicycles through little villages and lovely food this is the place. Spot on location to choose. There's more restaurants here than all the other little villages added together.

A river based Hotel in an area of waterlands and marshes may not be every bodies choice of a great holiday, but for some it is bliss. The river bank has boat trips and cafes/restaurants and a Country Park, great walks and much more. We will return, we loved it.
The hotel is in the middle of a lovely picturesque village. Welcomed by very helpful Receptionist. The room was very clean. My husband had a sore knee and was tired after a day of driving so the restaurant staff served us dinner in our room. The food and presentation was amazing. Very grateful to the staff for making that happen. Breakfast was typical French, but that suited us perfectly. Free secure parking at tenacity of the hotel was a bonus. We were also allowed to have our dog stay which we appreciate greatly.
We had a one night stay as a stopover en route for the south of France. However we were fascinated by the Marais Poitevin, and the hotel is an excellent base to explore it, so we hope to be back. The room was spacious and comfortable with all necessary extras, and evening meal a real surprise with gourmet cooking but still really good value. Thoroughly recommended. We hope to come back to the area in the future for a longer stay and will book into this hotel if there is a space.
We try to stay in this hotel when we travel between Brittany and Bordeaux. The town is picturesque and the hotel looks out onto one of the many waterways which give the area the name, la Venise Verte. The rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated and the breakfast is generous. Many local restaurants are within walking distance as are public car parks. Busy during the day the town is quiet at night. The hotel is run by a charming couple.
By mistake, the hotel had booked us in for the following day, but, after checking for other accommodation in Coulon, they put us up in a lovely room in their own nearby house. They couldn’t have done more to make up for their mistake. Full marks for concern for their guests. And a fabulous breakfast the next morning!
NB. We visited in April when it was relatively quiet.
Good central location with canal view with good access to local restaurants
Comfortable, quiet room
Changes towards making the hotel 'greener' was limited but very welcome.
Good information about where to go to see birds (eg kingfisher) on a boat trip.
Free wifi
This is a beautiful hotel. We had a large, spotlessly clean room. The staff were friendly and helpful, the food was amazing. The hotel has secure parking. We will definitely come back!! We traveled with our two dogs who were welcomed into the hotel and the restaurant. Coulon itself is fantastic for dogs.
Friendly helpful welcome in a lovely small town. Good room, well appointed, quiet and comfortable. Hotel decor is cool and tasteful. Restaurant not inexpensive but the meal was as good as any we've had in France - enough said! Good buffet breakfast, French style.
We have stayed here twice before. It is a lovely place right on the river bank. Coulon is a fascinating little town and has lots of excellent eating places only a stroll away. Very friendly welcome. Breakfast was good.
