This was our second stay . The house is perfect for a family group and dog. It is a very attractive house, well equipped with everything we needed to cook large meals, and comfortable everywhere. The garden is perfect for eating outside, and was safely enclosed for the two small children and Colby the dog.
We did walks in the woodland near by, and enjoyed the friendly swimming lake at Vernet le Varenne, about twenty minutes away. The local town, which is about five minutes’ drive, had small but well stocked supermarkets, and both towns have boulangeries/pâtisseries.
For bigger days out, towns like Le Puy en Velay, and La Chaise Dieu are easily manageable and worth the drive. Views all round the house and the area are fantastic.
Hotel La Sapinière is located in Brioude, just 20 km away from the Allier gorges and 33 km away from Issoire. Guests can relax by the indoor swimming pool and the hot tub.

Located in Jumeaux, just a 5-minute walk from the Allier River, Le Bravard offers hotel accommodation with a bar, restaurant and terrace. Issoire is only a 20-minute drive away.

Very friendly and helpful owners. Excellent value for money with evening meal, bed and breakfast for one person at 45 eu. They even offered a secure garage for my motorcycle, which is very thoughtful. Of note: you need to pay in cash, and the nearest ATM is in the next village (3 km) so be prepared; the rooms are up a narrow staircase; there is limited parking in front of the hotel, more in surrounding streets; there is a little supermarket 2 minutes walk away from the hotel; there is no obvious other restaurant choice in the village (there might be a pizza delivery service, I didn't investigate).

Convenient hotel on the edge of the quaint village of Vieille Brioude run by a young couple who deserve to succeed. Dinner was excellent focussing on local produce and we were given good advice as to which local wines to pair with our food. Our dog was allowed to sit with us in the restaurant, which we appreciated. Lovely countryside and interesting places to visit nearby. Hotel has its own car park.
