Good place to stay on way down from Calais to the South of...
Good place to stay on way down from Calais to the South of France or Spain. Busy town with square right by the hotel but I think a back room may be quieter in the summer. Plenty going on in and around the town. Fortress within walking distance.JamesUnited Kingdom - 10Scored 10
Saint Amand is in the very heart of France.
Saint Amand is in the very heart of France. We stayed there 3 days for the Citroen annual meeting of 2CV enthusiasts. The town is worth a visit and would be especially good if you needed an overnight or couple of days stop off en route to the south as it is ideally situated a couple of kilometres from the autoroute.

An interesting twin with a ruined castle to visit.
An interesting twin with a ruined castle to visit. There is a square in the centre, this hosts musical evenings. We stayed in the older part of the town, we have a dog and there was a park just a few metres from our B&B. At the other end of the town there is another park and this takes you beside the river.

When we came to leave they said we had only booked for one person and we had not paid so the price almost doubled. The night staff were excellent and very helpful although they could not speak English very well and we have very limited French. The hotel was very difficult to find in the dark. Wasted an hour searching lanes around the Abbey. Had we known the proper cost and that we had not paid we would not have stayed so we feel conned.StephenUnited Kingdom
