Characterful coastal town.
Characterful coastal town. In Summer there were lots of market stalls both in the town square and along the beach front. The large beach has lots of water activities such as windsurfing and sailing but there are separate areas for swimming so it is safe and enjoyable with lifeguards attending. The lighthouse is worth a visit - there's a lovely promenade walk to it and you can climb the stairs to the top for a lovely view of the area. St Georges was much quieter than neighbouring Royan.

The beach is clean and easily accessible and very close to the town. We arrived on a Monday and unfortunately almost every restaurant, café, bar and most shops were closed giving us very little choice.

I loved this town & area on the western coast of France!
I loved this town & area on the western coast of France! It's not known to many Americans, but many French go there for vacation in July & August. I felt lucky to have found it, only because a French friend is from the region. Places of interest are Talmont, Grotto Matata, Cotes Sauvage, lighthouse (phare) on the Ile de Re, are just a few. Mostly hanging out at the beach & going to the free evening concerts in Royan.CynthiaUnited States
