The Victorian Tap, hotel in Acomb

Featuring a bar, The Victorian Tap is set in Hexham in the Northumberland region, 35 km from MetroCentre and 35 km from Theatre Royal.

Rooms are above a lovely traditional pub right in the centre of Hexham. We were concerned about the noise levels but there was only a little background buzz. Really comfy beds and great shower with plenty of hot water. Room and bathroom really clean and look like they have been recently decorated. We found parking nearby without too much trouble and really enjoyed our stay here. Staff couldn't have been friendlier 🙂

George Hotel, hotel in Acomb

Set on the banks of the North Tyne, in an unrivalled setting overlooking Chester’s Roman Bridge and Hadrian's Wall beyond, this friendly hotel is surrounded by beautiful gardens and spectacular...

Loved my stay here. Good parking. Clean tidy room, bathroom had everything I needed. I appreciated the window being opened prior to my arrival as it was a warm day. The bed was incredibly comfortable as were the pillows and duvet. There was adequate tea and coffee in the room but a selection of caffeine-free drinks would have been better although reception was very happy to provide these when I asked. Whenever I spoke to reception they were friendly and accommodating. The reception area is large and welcoming. The bar area is nice and the location itself is stunning. The food was good and I was impressed with lunch and dinner. I didn't like eating next to a smelly dog however and hygiene wise don't feel animals should be where we eat. Breakfast was good, the eggs could do with being closer to the hot food table as the first morning I didn't realise they were there as they were off to one side by the toaster. The hot breakfast was pretty tasty, good sausages, the tomatoes had some lovely herbs on them and it was much more considered than many places I've stayed. While it's clear the hotel is very old and having renovations and refurbishments done this didn't impact my stay and it's nice to see the owners/management investing in the hotel. On investment, the leisure area is adequate but does need attention, it is however far nicer and cleaner than my recent stay at Linden Hall which cost ten times as much! I did find overall that the gardens really need some work to bring them up to the standard I'd expect them to be in a property of this kind. All in all, though, I think The George is a beautiful hotel, in a stunning location with good facilities and dining offerings. For disabled customers or customers with mobility problems, I would recommend checking the hotel as I think most rooms are upstairs.

As I was cycling,I asked for directions from several people, but the best I was given was to walk along the side of the dual carriageway ! I later discovered,by myself a bridleway that went straight to the foot of the village, although the pub itself is still some distance uphill and not signposted. The pub itself is obviously an old property, the room was basic, the breakfast was already in the room in a small fridge. The cereal was ok as was the coffee, but the yogurt was off. Another cyclist I met,was surprised that the pub was accepting guests. It could be so much better with a little effort,I had to wait till I passed a small retail outlet,to have a more substantial breakfast.

Restaurant not available at the hotel although advertised. was advised there was nowhere nearer than Hexham to get an evening meal. Acomb is a pretty village with good walks if travelling with dog. would not stay at the same hotel again.

Acomb is quiet and five minutes drive from Hexham or Hadrian's Wall and Northumbria is on the doorstep. It has 4 pubs, three in the village and one just outside. I tried 2 pubs and they were welcoming and reasonable. There is a fish and chip takeaway towards the end of the week at the side of the Queen Arms
