The hotel, location, local scenery and roaring log fires were all superb. Very relaxing and enjoyable. Unfortunately we really don’t like “fine” dining and so couldn’t use the main restaurant. Dishes such as raw mackerel, eel or turnip are just not for us and I just wish they would put on a fillet steak and a fish dish for those that don’t like fine dining but do like eating in more upmarket, and more traditional, restaurants. Although there is a brasserie style restaurant it doesn't have the same ambience and we found ourselves eating out most nights.

The scenery is magnificent and historic towns are within easy reach. The Abbey itself was destroyed in Henry viii's time, but half of the church was rebuilt/restored in the 10th century. A lovely place to relax and dream.

The Hotel was excellent, giving the perfect location for visiting Bolton Abbey Estate. Breakfasts in the Conservatory were excellent. We also had meals in both Restaurants, eating out on the Patio area on a very warm evening was very welcome. Our a la carte dinner in the Burlington Restaurant was excellent.
