Castlederg, like many small towns is quieter than it used to be. Good supermarkets if staying self catering. A couple of take-aways and sit in restaurants. We use as base when visiting family in the local area.

Castlederg is not worth staying, because there is nothing to...

Castlederg is not worth staying, because there is nothing to see nor to do. It's a pass through village in the middle of nowhere. It has three super markets (big, bigger, biggest), several pubs/inns/bars, a few take aways and a Greek restaurant. It has also a few guys that race every evening down the streets with their tuned and loud and backfiring cars. In short: a place to stay away if you can find other accommodation somewhere else.

It's a wonderful place and local people are very friendly and helpful. Plenty of pubs. A few shops, which seem to sell anything you could possibly want to buy, at reasonable prices. If you stay longer than a long weekend, I recommend your own transport (even a bicycle). Bring a decent map. Lots of 'R' and 'L' roads. You can drive for hours and see nothing but hedges, trees and fields. Signposting is not always informative. We recommend Derry for Hallowe'en, a day out in Donegal, Castlederg park & castle, Lough Erne, Strabane Leisure Centre swimming pool. It you want to eat out, make it early. After 9, only takeaways. Roads are well maintained
