From the start my visit was exceptional. I called in advance and mentioned my stay was an important occasion. They booked a lovely table for me on arrival, and even kept it after train cancellation meant I was late.
My room was superb. Again, they chose a special room for me with a view of the Minster. A really nice touch. The room was outstanding. Lovely atmosphere, comfy bed, very quiet.
The food was exceptionally good. I have never had a breakfast as well prepared and devised as this one. A large range of delicious options - every detail spot on. The eggs on both days were nothing short of historic. The porridge, often a humble offering was spectacular, options for coconut milk, fruit, nuts, honey and cooked beautifully. The 'Full Yorkshire' was divine. good portions and each part perfectly cooked and seasoned, all the items of good quality and local.
The location is the best in York in every way, the view, the street, the vibe of the area.
The price is astonishingly good. This sort of quality would be double the price in any other city - even my own, Dundee. Quite simply the best value hotel I have ever stayed in and I've stayed in a lot of them, both grand and bad. Trust me on this, you won't find a better place to stay.
The staff? so friendly, but professional. There when you need them but not over fussy. There was a wonderful server called Nina in the restaurant who was worth a visit in her own right. She was hilarious and had all the guests smiling.
Thank you Galtres Lodge for a delightful and memorable stay.

Great location for a stay within striking distance to York & outlet shopping centre. Bus runs every 15mins direct through village to both locations, literally takes no more than 20min. Good pub in grounds of Parsonage hotel & a Thai restaurant that also does takeout, excellent food at both.

We have stayed at the parsonage 4 times and wouldn’t go back if it was rubbish. The spa is lovely. Swimming pool, big jacuzzi , several steam rooms. The treatments were fairly priced. The fat fryer has a great menu and again good prices. The area (Escrick) is out of the way and unless you have a car you could be marooned. I didn’t see any busses but I understand it is on a route. We liked the lovely garden surroundings which were immaculate, the lounge and conservatory where we could relax and the swimming pool and jacuzzi which was excellent. The establishment was not as good as advertised. Definitely wouldn’t recommend or class as 4 star. Checkin experience was rubbish as did not have the room ready for check in time given on website. Spa outdated needs a refurbishment and the loungers really close to the floor (no legs on them) making it difficult getting back up from them. Room was too hot and had to have fan on and windows open all night. The milk was off in the room and no bin in the main room only in the bathroom. The only good thing I can say was that the Abbott pub which was on site was very nice with great staff and lovely food and plenty of parking. It has an added bonus of having a spa and a gym, of which I used both. The spa was open till 9 pm too which was great after a long day walking around the city. The Fat Abbot restaurant which is in the grounds of the hotel seems to be a hit for its food. My chicken and leek pie was particularly tasty.
