Delightful area, obviously Beatrix Potter is the big attraction but there are lots of walks nearby, it's a mile to the ferry to get across to Windermere, 2 pubs, both of which do great food, 15 minutes to Lakeside to catch a boat for trips along the lake, similar time scale for Hawkshead, not much further to Newby Bridge, Coniston or Ambleside.

It is quiet and away from noisy tourists but you need to have a car to go there. There is a car ferry connecting Far Sawrey and Windermere but it may close when the weather is rough. Then you have to drive on quite narrow country roads to get in and out to visit places.

Location was fine, especially to the ferry to cross Windermere to Bowness but note it is £5 per car each way. Be aware of driving, the lanes can be single track with few passing spaces so short distances can take much much longer than expected. Hawkeshead village well worth a visit for a cuppa and cake, need to pay for parking though.
Avoid Hardknott and Wrynose pass at all costs!

The location was nice and quiet.
The location was nice and quiet. If choosing to visit one of the lakes for watersports, then Coniston is more pleasant than Bowness-on-Windermere as it’s less crowded and less touristy. The water quality also seemed nicer.

Far Sawrey is a tucked-away hamlet between Windermere and Esthwaite Water. It's a "gently beautiful place" and you can walk directly from Cuckoo Brow Inn up onto the hills behind. However you really need to get in the car to get to the lake shore.
We ate at the Cuckoo Brow Inn - couldn't really think of a reason to go further afield, as the food there is excellent.

We came here to celebrate milestone birthdays of our family...
We came here to celebrate milestone birthdays of our family and friends and it was an excellent house to do that in. We also chose it because it was the Hawkshead Christmas market was the same weekend. We had intended to walk into Hawkshead but the weather was awful on the Saturday. It would have also meant having to walk most of the way on the road too. So we drove in and had we had a nice meal at the The Queens Head, before returning to cozy up for the night. On the Sunday, it was easy to get to Ambleside but we could not find any parking spaces there, so drove a bit further on to Grasmere, which is beautiful. However, we were very disappointed with our lunch at Heidi's cafe and would definitely avoid that on our next visit.
ideal location. very very dog friendly. lots of car parking. All of the staff were brilliant the family who run this pub were amazing and so accomodating they made you feel like part of the family too. I had family locally and there were 6 of us do they accomodated 13 of us all in one go for the evening meal, the food was great traditional pub food and very reasonably priced as food in the Lakes can be very expensive. Service was great and we were all served togehter.
The hotel itself is beautiful, cosy, and full of history. The room was comfortable, with a lovely view. The hotel manager/owner couldn't have been more helpful and friendly - we felt welcome from the moment we stepped through the door.
Breakfast was awesome! We opted for a full cooked breakfast, which was delicious & quick to arrive.
We will absolutely come back here again.
The inn is in delightful quiet location, yet easy to get too, and with £1 quick ferry to Bowness a short walk away, for those wanting a change of scenery. Lovely walks on the doorstep, 2 pubs and Joey s cafe all close. This is a cosy, friendly inn which we like, but not fancy/gastro style which others might prefer. All in all, very good value.
The quintessential lakeland getaway, perfect to wake up in and perfect to end the day, excellent food on site, comfortable and colloquial environment with friendly and accommodating staff, very dog friendly for any dog lovers and close to the ferry to Bowness if you want to leave your car parked up and just walk
The staff were really friendly, the location was really good in terms of places to walk. The roads could have been a bit wider but that's not up to the Cuckoo Brow Inn! Very nice pleasant place to stay if you want to see the Lake District and great food.
Nice apartment, comfy and it had everything we needed to spend a couple of relaxing days. The proximity to the ferry is quite convenient and we liked it lots. The cuckoo brown is very close and their food is lovely. Highly recommend staying here!
Quaint, well maintained establishment in the Lake District. On the Non-busy side of Windermere Lake. The staff was excellent and very polite and attentive to our needs. The food and drink was excellent. Many walking trqils right out the door.
Staff - very friendly and helpful - went the extra mile and more. Felt very much like a family. Location is stunning. Hotel property is lovely. Great atmosphere in bar and restaurant. Rooms very comfortable and well appointed. Nice big bath.
Excellent food, the pork belly was fantastic for those with a huge appetite. Nice location for our stopover on our way to Scotland. Well situated for local amenities across the lake in Windermere. Comfortable room, plenty of tea coffee etc.
Location excellent for easy access of all areas around Lake Windermere, Grisedale Forest, Hawkshead, Bowness, Ambleside, Windermere.
The cottage has character
A 1 minute walk to The Cuckoo Brow Inn, great food and very dog friendly
The Cuckoo Brow lived up to it's great reputation with friendly helpful staff well furnished accommodation and great food, We have stayed many times in the past, and the Cuckoo Brow continues to impress.
Great location close to two pubs for dinner out. Perfect to get to all the areas we love to walk in the Lakes. Well fitted out, beautifully decorated and suited our needs. Dog friendly too
Lovely comfortable little hotel. Spotlessly clean. Super friendly staff who made us feel so welcome.
Great walks from the doorstep. Evening meals were great, same good quality breakfast
Great location in a quiet spot on the banks of Windermere. Very comfortable little cottage, with everything you need for a home from home stay. A great place to discover the Lakes
Brilliant hotel, staff pleasant and helpful and very friendly, nothing I could say is negative, I would recommend this hotel to friends and family and everyone else 👍
Fab location with a view over Lake Windermere.
Spacious cottage with modern conveniences and rustic charm.
Powerful shower!
Property also has a Scandinavian Hot Tub!
Comfortable and well presented cottage. Great communication with the owner.
Glenside is in a great location, 5 minutes from local villages and the Winderemere ferry.
Good ambience, lovely staff, superb location. Breakfasts were excellent. Bedrooms were comfortable and well sited. There were good walks around the hotel.
