We stayed at Spanhoe Lodge for access to Rutland Water and the villages in the area. If you like walking then this is a perfect base. Before you stay in the area make sure you have planned where to eat in the evening - possibly eat at the hotel you're staying in because, apart from a few local pubs, there's not much open in the evenings. Stamford is well worth a visit too
