Beautiful building in a picturesque village. Exceptional food, friendly, polite and helpful staff and wonderfully clean rooms. Large towels and plenty of hot water. Amazing breakfast choice cooked like the evening meals to perfection and served with a smile and a good laugh! This place could do with showing many others how it should be done. A hidden gem we’ll continue to return too!

Spacious bedroom with shower room in a separate block of 3 at the back of the Inn.
Very comfortable 6 foot wide bed.
Heating from adjustable radiator. Wide-screen television on the wall opposite the end of the bed.
Kettle, but insufficient tea, coffee and sugar - was provided when requested.
Evening meal in the pub was excellent and at a reasonable price.

Staff very friendly. Room clean. Dinner excellent. Service at both dinner and breakfast was very good. I appreciated having a proper pot of tea at breakfast and the muesli was excellent.

Pretty little town, with ancient origins, good footpaths and a couple of super pubs. There is also an excellent Italian restaurant. Make sure that you visit the Florist too, alongside the flowers she sells an eclectic mix of old and new - with a high standard of service.

Gorgeous little village - we stayed there because we'd visited the Haynes Car Museum and had been go-karting during the day. It really was a perfect place to stay, nice large room, comfy beds, very clean, nice bar and incredible breakfast. We headed next door to the Italian for dinner which was equally as lovely and then headed off to Lyme Regis the following morning.

Ilchester is off the main road and away from most traffic noise. Food outlets are available locally within easy walking distance of the hotel, however the hotel does excellent food.
There is much to do in the area and Ilchester itself is quaint, but it is as a base for exploring its best looked at.

Tiny ancient town that has 3 pubs, an Italian restaurant, a Chinese take away plus one lovely gift and flower shop. It is convenient to visit some wonderful National Trust gardens and properties. I ate at the Bull but can't recommend it, The Ilchester Arms owned by the same family is the better bet.

Friendly staff the food was exceptional!!
Friendly staff the food was exceptional!! We stayed in room 12 a little annex out the back which was just perfect for me the hubby & the dog!! The bed was extremely comfortable and the room was plenty big enough!! It’s very central for travelling for days out ...West Bay ...Lyme Regis..Clarke’s village..Air fleet museum Weymouth just to name a few!! Well worth a stay !!
Couldnt find a fault with Liongate - it feels more like a boutique hotel than a B+B and a very good one too. The rooms are literally spotlessy clean, they have a fantastic eye to detail, and with lots of nice little touches (like a couple of chocolates and good variety of teas). The decor must be very recent and is to a very high standard - there were no signs of wear or tear or anything like that - it all felt new. Breakfast was fab, again high quality ingredients, lots of choice and very friend owners. They are doing a great job here.
The accommodation and facilities were of the highest quality. Parking easy on-site. Nothing was too much trouble for the Hosts and the room, bed, shower and all other facilities were superb. The breakfast was excellent with great choice and quality.
Well-positioned for breaking an A303 journey to/from the West Country or staying a few days to explore Somerset, in historic Ilchester there are good eating options within 5 mins walk.
We enjoyed our stay very much and have no hesitation in recommending Lionsgate. It's great.
Our room was spacious, clean, cool - important given the warm temperatures, with a comfortable bed, good linen and most importantly it was quiet. Breakfast was superb; from fresh fruit and yoghurts to expertly cooked breakfast and pots of hot tea and coffee. Importantly all of the staff team were polite and courteous - in fact it felt as if they really cared. We would thoroughly recommend the Ilchester Arms and believe the proprietor clearly works very hard to maintain super standards.
Room decor excellent, was offered a pot of tea on arrival which was very welcome after our long journey from Cornwall, hosts were friendly and welcoming and sitting in the pretty well kept garden by the pond was delightful, will definately stay again on the long journey to and from the west country. Five star service equal to a top hotel. And breakfast was freshly cooked to my dietary reqierments and very tasty.
The hotel is a comfortable, quiet and well run establishment. It is off the main routes a short way, but that is what I like.
Staff are pleasant and helpful. There is a good and varied menu. Good centre for Somerset, Dorset exploration and not too far from the South (Jurassic) coast. Have stayed there five times now and all rooms are different, so no straight lines and a cottage like feel.
Full English breakfast excellent with no hesitation in supplying more coffee etc. One night we had dinner in the hotel which exceeded our expectations. Throughout our short stay the staff were very helpful. Note the courtyard rooms look out on a large car park and countryside. The garden rooms look onto a small garden and the road so are not so quiet.
The hotel is beautifully furnished and very comfortable. The owners daughter Poppy was lovely, very welcoming and friendly. The food was delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast and evening meal. The grounds were stunning, perfect setting for a wedding. Will definitely be going back.
Lovely hosts, very welcoming and full of local knowledge. Excellent room, spotless and everything you would expect if you went to a top class hotel, but not the price of one!
Lovely characterful hotel in a pleasant little village. Staff were pleasant and helpful overall. Very quiet place, which depending on your preference could be good or bad.
