The setting is absolutely beautiful. The property has stunning views and amazing grounds. The castle itself is very impressive and the renovations have been done with impeccable taste! Breakfast was also delicious and served in the room. Tobias was very prompt at great at getting us all booked in, while James was a brilliant host for our stay.

I honestly can't fault it. My daughter would have liked WiFi but the lack of internet didn't bother me at all. Beautiful house, stunning surroundings, a great base to access the area. We at at the Mariner in Kipiford, gathered shells on Sandgreen beach, shopped at Castle Douglas and Dalbeattie, and had a thoroughly wonderful weekend.

D&G is scenically lovely - coast & inland - but be aware that distances between sights are often substantial, and many roads slow. We loved Kirkcudbright and its galleries & museums, the coast nearby, the RSPB Mersehead reserve, the Logan botanical gardens, New Lanark, and the retro charms of Thornhill and Wigtown. There's also great walking, if you can. Most other towns are down at heel though, and eating options are limited: we found the Palm of India in Dumfries very good, and heard good reports of Mr. Pook's in Castle Douglas.
