A proper pub with good beer and food.Great staff and excellent rooms.
So much history. Loved the buildings, the motte and bailey castle, the priory remains in the park, the independent shops and cafés. Everything is within walking distance. Great to have a railway station and Brighton only 9 miles away. Superb views and walks over the South Downs.

Interesting county town.
Interesting county town. A few things to do inside there (eg castle and priory, Depot cinema by the station). Or excellent transport links to coast (Seaford preferable to Newhaven unless you want to catch the ferry to Dieppe) and Brighton of course. The self contained area of Downs to the east are my favourite. Quieter than the main range of the Downs to the south so you can just roam around and enjoy the peace. Or you can walk along the river as far as Newhaven but this can be quite muddy when it's been raining. Beautiful flat walk though if you go when it's dry, or don't mind mud!

I lived near Lewes from 2000 to 2005 so know the area. Am fond of the Riverside area with its eating places, also the High Street. Perhaps not a huge amount going on, and perhaps the "Information Centre" could be
done up/revamped a little more, but the town is in an excellent central location for a holiday spent exploring locally.

Lewis is an old town full of interesting history, lots of old buildings and of course the castle that's always worth the walk up the hill, don't worry if you're not too fit as you can get a local bus to the top of the hill. Lots of wonderful pubs and cafes in the town centre along with some nice restaurants. The town is surrounded by stunning scenery all around.

I stay in Lewes frequently for visits to Glyndebourne.
I stay in Lewes frequently for visits to Glyndebourne. The local taxi firm (GMC Taxis) are very good and are prompt when picking up at the arranged time both to get to Glyndebourne and to return.
The town itself has much to offer with interesting shops and historic places including the Castle.
Hotel accommodation is very limited since the closure of The Shelleys and Pelham House. Parking is expensive

LEWES IS A BEAUTIFUL PLACE!
LEWES IS A BEAUTIFUL PLACE!
HOWEVER DO NOT STAY AT PREMIER INN !!!!!!!!!! THEY ARE A TOTAL JOKE AND NOTHING LESS THAN DAYLIGHT THIEVES WHO NEARLY DESTROYED MY WEDDING WITH 2 MISTAKES ON OUR BOOKINGS.
The Dorset on the other hand is a Lovely place to stay and would recommend it to anyone whishing to stay in Lewes.
Lazslo was very helpful on arrival and departure and all in between. \There are no services at the hotel, so hard to comment, but if you wanted a drink or meal, you would have to bring your own or call one of the food delivery people, This was highlighted at the time of booking though. I assume this is due to the current staffing crisis in the hospitality industry
We stayed at the property for 2 nights and the bed was very comfortable resulting in a good nights sleep. The room and bathroom were spotless. The host were warm and friendly. The location was fantastic in the heart of Lewes and only minutes to walk for breakfast with plenty of choice. Lewes is a great place to visit and we will definitely stay there again.
A well equipped, clean property for a single person or a couple.
Great location on the NW outskirts of Lewes - easy access to the Downs and a 15-20 minute walk to the town centre.
The kitchen area was surprisingly usable, with milk, juice, tea, and coffee provided - very welcome on arrival, thank you!
A smart TV and good Wi-Fi were the icing on the cake.
Lovely well appointed apartment in a good central location in Lewes. Very handy to have a supermarket (Waitrose) and Boots Chemist very near. Also Waterstones almost underneath! Very comfy, lovely open plan sitting room / kitchen with dual aspect windows so nice and light. Bed comfy. Okay shower, water pressure not the best, but perfectly acceptable.
It was a lovely welcome, very clean, deluxe, comfortable, great products, high thread count bed linen, warm, cozy and tastefully decorated. Small kitchen and private living room was ideal and the ease of being in the heart of Lewes was so convenient. Vicky was so accommodating and responsive. I highly recommend and would stay again in a heartbeat!
This old hotel is first up a great pub. The antique timber bar is a wonderful piece if work. The staff are friendly, and the beer is good. Our room was spacious and comfortable as well as being quiet.
The Dorset was perfectly placed for the start of our nine day walk on the old pilgrim way to Canterbury. A goodbreakfast set us on our way.
Location is convenient for Glyndebourne.
Early check-in was arranged and was honoured
Room is clean and well supplied with towels, toiletries and hospitality tray.
There is a heated towel rail. There is a hair dryer. There is a fan if the weather is hot.
The hotel is unstaffed and access is by a previously informed door code.
Lovely comfortable stay while walking the South Downs way. Bus to Lewes very easy. Great location in Lewes. A few minutes walk away from a great choice of restaurants. Very friendly host welcomed us on arrival. Although accommodation is on the ground floor in the host's own house, our privacy was respected so that is no issue.
Really clean and very comfortable house, spotless organisation by the host. Ideal if you want to relax. The location is convenient, out of the way but close enough that you can walk everywhere in Lewes. I really value how well and worry-free I felt after having stayed 3 days, thanks!
Lovely, quaint and cosy space. We loved our stay here and Simone has provided a beautiful space for a getaway. The 'best brownies' were very much appreciated and we ordered a cooked and continental breakfast which was all delicious and plentiful. Would happily stay again.
The apartment was 5 minutes walk from the railway station right in the centre of Lewes. A bus stop and supermarket were about 400 m away. There was an excellent restaurant just across the road. The location would be hard to beat.
Excellent location. Walking distance into Lewes was reasonable. Lewes is a delightful and interesting town with lots of shops, restaurants, cafes, pubs etc. visit The Needlemakers - interesting shops and excellent cafe.
This was our favorite hotel during our stay In the UK. The staff made us feel at home and the hotel restaurant is fabulous, one of the best meals we ate during our trip. We will definitely be back again
