Monreith is very quiet, no shops or pub. But there is a beach, you just need to know the tide times. No light pollution at all - was awesome with a full moon, sadly no northern lights, as very cloud & wet for the week we were there. Local shop in Port William & also a pub just the other side - The Cock Inn - but they do not allow dogs.

It’s a great place with fantastic views across to Isle of Man, Galloway lighthouse and amazing stone walls everywhere yo go. Ninias cave is a gorgeous walk down and ending up with stunning views. Eating in the Old Railway at Whithorn was a very nice clean and good food place.

We wanted a remote location away from the hustle and bustle and we got exactly what we wanted. Do not expect a pub at the end of the road, because there are none. Use of a car is essential, but it is well worth it to see all the great places in the area.

Whithorn/Monreith are in dire need of restaurants as opposed to pub grub (albeit very nice and perfectly adequate) serving a different range of food not only for visitors but for the locals in the off peak season.

Our stay at Cairdoon Byre was excellent but due to time constraints we did not have time to explore Monreith further but we would love to return for a longer stay some time as what we did see just whetted our appetite for more.
