Appleby Castle, hotel in Ravenstonedale

Sitting next to the River Eden in the beautiful Eden Valley at the edge of the Lake District is the majestic Appleby Castle.

We loved the medieval feel of the castle. To be around the original decor, no tvs in room and just overall basic. It is a fantastic escape. The food was amazing, we dined in the hall and could not fault the food whatsoever. Well presented and tasty. We got upgraded for free and we was very grateful. Hot water, comfy bed, clean, and loved the shutters for the windows! Staff were attentive and friendly. We arrived around 415pm and the lovely guy who man's the grounds was fab and full of knowledge about the castle and check in was super.

We only stayed for one night as it was a stop over on the way home but what a lovely village! There are 2 pubs with rooms situated on the 2 becks running through the village. Pretty buildings and a church and 2 chapels to look at, would like to visit again.

The hotel was cosy and friendly on a cold wet evening. Being a Saturday evening when we arrived the car park was full but we managed to squeeze in to a space at the front. The hotel was busy but the bar and restaurant service was very good. We only booked a night stop but we will try to stay longer next time to explore the area. I think we had one of the smaller rooms which was adequate for a night stop but a bit cosy for a longer stay.

Food superb, loved that the dog was very welcome. Rooms were spotless. Staff very friendly and helpful. It was helpful that we didn't have to go through the bar everytime we left the hotel with the dog. Useful to be able to use the rear door.
