Good location if you need to catch a bus to the airport or a train in unsociable hours. A nice room, a bit bigger than typical hotel rooms, comfortable, somewhat worn-off but overall good considering the price

Good check-in, friendly staff. Quiet room despite being over a pub on a Friday night. Fabulous selection of real ales in the well run bar that has won many awards.

Car park had a huge dip catching you out if you arrived in the dark. No lighting
Carpets in need of urgent repair in reception and reception not manned , you had to contact them by mobile phone
room was not clean, very dusty, lights blew when switched on and half the bulbs missing. Only one station available on TV. Shower was ok but if you want a bath it will take ages to fill. Not enough sockets for bedside lamps. Sofa needed a thorough clean, curtains needed proper fixing. Due to stay 2 nights only stayed one
Bed clean and comfortable
Have asked for a refund which is not forthcoming
Sadly this was a lovely building which needs a lot of money spent on it
The room needed 90 minutes work to make it good

Although a late booking everything went smoothly, despite the place being in the muddle of a huge renovation.
It didn't bother me, being alone & busy that most of the facilities, eg kitchen, restaurants, Spa etc being out of order; the place is so lovely it stands alone & the rooms beg to have time spent in them.

Our first impression was of carpets being held together with gaffer tapes it looked very tired. The bathroom was very tatty and needs an update.
It looks like they are refurbishing however I feel our room were not fit for paying customers.

Man complaining that his room hadn't been cleaned was met by " frigging hell" by a member of staff.
No central heating came on at all...staff said it was on a timer but it never came on. Room was freezing. Reception girl gave us a tiny heated when I complained.
Lights hanging off the wall, no bulb in one near door, wall paper hanging off the wall in bedroom.
No bar open.
No cooked breakfast.
Stale bread for toast. No fresh coffee or tea...flask with water
All packet food.
No napkins, no saucers, no teaspoons. Good set out in one room but no trays to carry it to dining room. No staff to help. One disabled guest had to be helped by us to carry his breakfast to the dining room.Dust you could write your name in on the lamps.

We just generally liked our stay at Risley. We came with iur 2 children. It was nice to go back for the night to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary as we got married there last year. When we got there there was a little problem with the room we only had 3 single beds instead of 1 double and 2 singles but was literally delt with and sorted with minutes of talking to the manager joe who was on that day. He was lovely and was really helpful and made us feel welcome. The family room we had was nice and we enjoyed the breakfast too.
The room was freezing cold. In need of an update. The spa and food facilities weren't available. It was supposed to be a romantic break for myself and my fiance to celebrate our 1st Valentine's Day together and it was completely ruined. We had no heating and were provided with 2 plug in heaters which were very noisy. We spent most of our time back at home in Ilkeston as the hotel was so depressing. We didn't get the room we booked.
From the minute I opened the door, it was like being home. It’s the best feeling walking into a room with personality and does not feel so bland like many hotels.
There were personal touches to make my stay more comfortable and Hope (the owner) popped by personally to welcome me and say hi.
I’d love to say bad things so no one stops and I always get a room! I simply can not.
The Risley Guest House is a gem.
I liked the privacy of the patio, the comfort of the room. The furnishings and decor were very homey.
The property was very clean. The host and hostess were very kind and helpful. The countryside was pleasant and Risley is not far from the M1. I will recommend this AirB&B. If I return to the area, I would be very happy to stay here again.

The welcoming and friendly reception staff, the excellent breakfast and the general feel of the place. We loved a walk around the spacious garden of the hotel and although there is no restaurant at the hotel, a 2 minute walk to a nice pub restaurant which served great food. The gentleman and the English lady at reception were fantastic.
Brilliant always have space for us both times we’ve been over there now.
First time was amazing the staff were great and helpful so late at night. And put us in a locley room other side of the hotel. Also brought us glasses to our room ! Very kind lady!
Very comfy bed and room it was beautiful.
Hotel is a beautiful old hotel ..grounds are beautiful but everything is a little faded . Breakfast on the morning was lovely . Staff were friendly and the rooms were clean, but and comfortable..I'd probably say the old house was the best but the offshoot had the bugger rooms and it's quirky
Room was fantastic as there were two separate sleeping areas for our family so it was more like a suite. Lots of character to the hotel and it's tucked away from the main road with nice views from our room. We didn't have breakfast at the hotel so can't comment on that.
This hotel is quirky and fun. It is different from the usual hotels and the feel is olde worlde. The gardens were lovely. And the grand hall is lovely. Our bedroom was quaint, comfortable and clean.
Great location for site seeing in Derbyshire. Extremely dog friendly - both the accommodation and surrounding hospitality venues.
Hope the owner was very welcoming and helpful. We will return again.
Good out-of-the-way location. Ample parking. Clean room. Certain staff very friendly and effective. Characterful building. Good breakfast and excellent value.
