We received a lovely, warm welcome and were made to feel part of the :family". The food was outstanding. Breakfast was excellent and dinner menu for choice was varied and appealing. Service always attentive and friendly. Very comfortable rooms with everything to hand. The Royal Oak had a lovely warm atmosphere. Excellent location for touring and for seeing National Trust properties. Also, close to many attractive locations and the sea.
Very friendly, almost like staying with friends. In the evening food was available from a limited menu, either to eat in the cosy club bar or in one's room. As warned, there is no television in the rooms to avoid messing up the panelling and decor of this beautiful listed house. Very comfortable beds with Egyptian cotton sheets and pillows of the right softness (feathers). We prefer blankets to duvets and this was no problem. The only thing we might have liked was some sort of fish on the menu for breakfast, but this was a very slight quibble. All in all, can't recommend it enough.

The area is beautiful and lovely to explore on foot and by car. I imagine it would be good biking country too. It was sleepy at the start of October, with nothing much happening in Timberscombe itself. Dunster Castle was the highlight, with a Sunday roast at the Stag's Head Inn.

Timbersccombe is a very small village with a church and a very good pub. It is very good for walking with lots of foot paths for walks. A lot of the roads in the are are single track with some steep hills but the views are stunning.

The location was excellent on the edge of Exmoor.
The location was excellent on the edge of Exmoor. Lots of places to visit so long as you are OK with narrow country lanes. The pub next door is great. Timberscombe is in a delightful part of England
