The night porter went out of his way to make mine and my husbands stay special as it was our 30th wedding anniversary well done for the excellent customer service shame the manager wouldn't help with what I had asked for.

The Olde Forge Hotel, hotel in Wartling

The Olde Forge Hotel is situated in Hailsham and features a garden, bar and on-site dining. The accommodation features luggage storage space and free WiFi.

The old Forge is an old building but very well maintained and we were very comfortable . We appreciated our host's generosity and the delicious cooked breakfast. We were the only guests there as the hosts had to leave the next morning so had not taken more bookings. In deference to our early booking and the fact we were from Australia and possibly in the middle of our trip, they let our booking stand. We really appreciated this. A real positive for this accommodation is that there is parking at the premises, and it is free. (Often "parking available " means paid parking in a council car park.)

Our stay at Wartling Place could not have been more comfortable. Set in beautiful countryside, the house was spacious and furnished with great taste. We received a warm welcome from the lady of the house and we appreciated the attention she gave to all her guests. The highlight of the mornings were the superb breakfasts. The policy of seating guests at one long table proved very stimulating. We would like to explore the area more fully. Herstmonceux Castle is on the doorstep, with beautiful gardens. The charming Saxon/Norman village churches are a reminder that it is truly "1066 country".

Beautiful house and garden, safe parking on the premises, lovely room overlooking the garden, very quiet, lovely room and bathroom, a selection of bottles of wine and beer available for sale, fridge and fresh milk in the hall, bottled water, tea, coffees, biscuits etc. as much as needed. There were little bottles of shower gel and body lotion as well as a shower cap in the bathroom. Excellent breakfast with various choices. Very beautiful and comfortable lounge. The whole house was nice and warm. The hostess was very welcoming, friendly, extremely helpful and so kind. We very much enjoyed our stay and are very happy to recommend Wartling Place Country House. There are several walks nearby. Herstmonceux Castle is only a short drive away or can be reached by walking from Wartling Place Country House.

    The rooms were lovely.

The rooms were lovely. Not just the bedroom but the dining room and the lading with it's gorgeous antique cabinets. We were just using Wartling as a base to go to a nearby wedding, but we would have liked to have stayed longer and explored. We were there two nights, and enjoyed a lovely dinner at the Smugglers Inn at Pevensey. It's an easy ten minute drive from Wartling Place Country House B&B.

Loved walking through the woods to collect kindling with the children. Making fires and cooking our dinner on the gas cooker and bbq that was provided. They wash room block is the best I've been to I a long time the art work was stunning. Very clean and good quality showers. We loved the campsite. I just found the futon beds very uncomfortable. The owners were fantastic very approachable and helpful.

We thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay at Wartling Place Country House. The location was perfect and the house and grounds were beautiful. Rowena was there to greet us with a warm welcome and was so accommodating throughout our whole stay - nothing was too much trouble and we felt at home instantly! The room was spacious but cosy, and had everything we needed along with big windows and a lovely view across to the church opposite. We would definitely recommend a stay here, and look forward to visiting again if we are back in the area.

Wartling Place is a beautiful house in significant grounds. It is in the centre of the village of Wartling, with a lovely pub right opposite. It is an ideal base for visiting the local gardens and other attractions, eg Farley’s House & Gallery, National Trust’s Bateman’s, Herstmonceaux Castle and many others. The owner, Rowena, was very welcoming and helpful. The breakfast is served in a grand room, and is plentiful. All in all, it was a relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable stay.
