Hotel in a beautiful setting, staff are good and the restaurant very good.I would defiantly recommend for a few days. The road outside can get very busy and noisy at the peek hours, and a comfortable lounge would be nice.

Whittonstall is a sleepy village on the top of a hill with fantastic views over the counrtryside. We only ate at the Anchor Inn partly because it was where we where staying but mainly because the food was so good and there was so much choice.

The location was perfect for our trip - it was a stopping off point between one stay with friends and another with family. If bookers are looking for other local amenities though ( local shops etc) this is not the stop for you. The food and hospitality at the Anchor are both top rate

For a pub it was very quiet but not much to do in Whittingstell. There were no other venues within walking distance of the Anchor Inn. However if you are looking for a quiet chill out this could be the ideal place as everything is of good quality and should have everything that you require.

The food was great both at breakfast and evening. The room was a good size and very comfortable. The bathroom had a walk in shower which was helpful since my fellow traveller is disabled. The location is rural with lovely views and convenient to access Northumberland and County Durham. The owners and staff were all very friendly and accommodating and made us feel very welcome. Lovely atmosphere.

Whittonstall was convenient for all the relatives we had to visit. It was easy to access main roads to tourist centres, such as Durham, Corbridge and Newcastle. It had superb views and several nice short walks, after dinner. We passed some neighbours who spoke highly of the Anchor Inn and were very friendly.
