The rooms at the Hotel Diamond are nowhere nearly as splashy as the front of the building would indicate. They have definitely seen better days, but they are pretty private and clean, with enough space to pack away your things, a decent desk, bathroom, working wifi and AC. The AC may not be great in one room, but it's worth checking another room for a newer outlet. This hotel is good if there aren't too many guests, but with a large group, it's bound to be noisy, and the rooms full of cigarette smoke.
There is not a lot around the hotel, but that said, you are a leisurely half hour walk to the core of the town where the palaces are located, along a roadway that is easy to navigate, with lots of restaurants, cafes, facilities, and shopping on the way. The ability to walk easily is a big bonus, considering what Indonesian cities can be like.
There is English-speaking staff at the front desk, which is a huge bonus. They are fairly helpful, which is great!
