B&B Leopardi, hotel in Montefiore dellʼAso

Situated in Montefiore dellʼAso in the Marche region, B&B Leopardi has a terrace. The Riviera delle Palme Stadium is within 23 km of the apartment.

We liked everything! We couldn't believe our luck at finding such characterful accomodation. The location was just inside the medieval walls along a typical narrow hilltop town street and just a stonesthrow from an excellent restaurant. The view from our window was stunning; below our window across the road was a local street cafe and beyond that the view swept down across rooftops to the valley with its patchwork of fields and out towards a wide landscape and more distant hills. In July the sky was often full of swifts swooping aerobatically across perfect blue skies. The outside brick walls of the house are festooned with bright potplants and the welcome within is just as cheerful. Laure is the perfect hostess, always available to answer any queries and offer suggestions for visits. She couldn't do enough for us. Not only did she provide tasty Italian breakfasts with a huge array of local produce for us to enjoy, including local cheeses and meats and fresh patisserie but there was always a large bowl of fruit and an array of Italian almond biscuits left out for us to snack on during the day....far beyond the BnB remit. Our flat was in a charming house full of interesting vintage decorations and ornaments. The homely rooms were large and airy with very comfortable beds. Everything is spotlessly clean. There is a washing machine and when we asked, we were able to hang our washing up on the roof terrace to dry. The view from there is perfect for sitting watching the sunsets over the vast distant landscape .

It is a typical hilltop town with steep, narrow roads along which people stroll in the evenings. Drivers were careful and with the narrow steep roads I was happy to leave driving to someone else. Roads never felt scary and the pace of life is pleasantly relaxed so we never felt under any pressure. When we were there the central square was closed to traffic one evening for a festival, tables had been set up and the place was thronged. Lovely! The cool quiet churches all deserve a visit and there are some outdoor cafes open at some times for snacks. There are a couple of excellent restaurants and somewhere to buy gelati. We saw Italian tourists but it is out of the way for foreigners such as us....which we liked. There are 5 museums but opening times need to be discovered. We met with kindness and good humour wherever we went. It is best explored on foot and the old, more interesting parts can be walked around over a day. Everywhere closes 1-5pm and we were happy to join in the custom of an afternoon rest. There are supermarkets and places to buy local foods if you are self-catering. We had family in a neighbouring valley and were able to travel even late at night to visit. The hillside roads are windy and unlit but they are mostly empty, wide enough for passing, well-maintained on the whole and other drivers we did meet were always considerate. A car is essential to travel between towns or down to the Adriatic coast

It is like many of the hill-towns of Le Marche, but it has more restaurants and bars than some of the other small villages, and there are good views to be had of the town from the community park. It makes a good base from which to explore the area; the beach is nearby as well as many other hill-towns worth visiting.
