Nice old style accomodation experience. Just that the person who manage does not speak english, so was difficult to communicate even though we try language apps.

What a warm welcome and so many little touches that made the stay very easy. The tents were large and spacious and beautifully furnished. We were kindly upgraded and offered free showers. The staff couldn't have been kinder.

This was a fantastic family experience in very authentic and classy Japanese ryokan. I loved the private onsen. The staff were all professional and exceptionally welcoming. The food was amazing.

Lovely property that’s been very tastefully refurbished and a fun way to experience more traditional houses. Assi is very helpful and very generously gave us a lift to Magome for the Nakasendo hike. We also really enjoyed Sakashita - there were some good restaurants and it was great to escape the tourists.

The drive up to the location was gorgeous, the host picked me up from Tsumago and after my stay dropped me off to the Nagiso train station. While the host speaks limited english, he is a wonderful conversationalist and a joy to talk to.
The accommodation itself is very spacious, the interior design beautiful, and the onsen baths were at really comfortable temperature for me.
While I was unable to eat all of the food they served (I have a small stomach, not their fault), I really wish i could have, because I think it was one of the best meals I've ever had.
I will definitely come back some day.

Suhara (Okuwa) is a lovely small town on the Nakasendo on the Kiso river. It's in Nagano prefecture. There are some lovely houses. Trains are reliable but infrequent so plan carefully if travelling by train. Make sure you don't go to the town of the same name, on the same river, in Gifu prefecture as we did. Super place if you love peace, quiet and walking / hiking
