Minshuku Suhara, hotel in Okuwa

Located 47 km from Enakyo Wonderland, Minshuku Suhara features accommodation in Okuwa. It is situated 47 km from Ōi and offers luggage storage space.

Oh, this place is both charming with its atmosphere of old-time Japan, as well as greatly located if you are for visiting nearby located old post towns of Tsumago or Magome. Spacious rooms with comfy futons, endless spaces with bedrooms, living room, bathrooms and - which was a fantastic discovery - a Japanese style all wooden bathroom with a bathtub. This was such a relaxing experience after we travelled from the north. 7-eleven is at walking distance, the host is extremely helpful, free parking space just 50m from this beautiful wooden, old, atmospheric, all Japanese style house. We loved everything about it - it had even the hearth in the middle of the living room, like the ones you'd see in the samurai movies. We felt as if we travelled back in time for 200 years! We simply loved it!

ties Camp Ground Nagiso, hotel in Okuwa

Located in Nagiso and only 35 km from Ōi, ties Camp Ground Nagiso provides accommodation with mountain views, free WiFi and free private parking.

Ties Campground was a wonderful place to stay as a family. We were hiking a number of days on the Nakasendo Way & returning to the campground each night was great! The place is very well set up with provisions for cooking and cleaning and the glamping tents are really beautiful, with plenty of warmth in the way of sleeping bags and doonas provided. The owners and staff are extremely friendly and accommodating.

Nezame Hotel, hotel in Okuwa

Boasting a shared lounge, Nezame Hotel is located in Agematsu. Each accommodation at the 4-star hotel has mountain views and free WiFi. All guest rooms in the hotel are fitted with a kettle.

We had some dietary restrictions but the staff went above and beyond for us to accommodate this. We received very delicious meals for breakfast and dinner. The facilities of the hotel were maintained well and were easy to use. We had two queen size beds and a big room for us which felt like a luxury. Location of the hotel for our trip through the Kiso valley was also perfect. It was quiet all around the hotel and the onsen was the perfect temperature- great for relaxation after busy days in Tokyo.

The food, atmosphere, and attention to detail by the host blew me away. On top of that it is situated perfectly at the top of a hill with views to the mountains and near a number of hikes and rivers. Will come back it is the perfect base camp of relaxing and also exploring the wonderful Kiso region

Guesthouse SHIGI, hotel in Okuwa

Guesthouse SHIGI is located in Nakatsugawa, 46 km from Gero Station, 24 km from Ōi, as well as 24 km from Enakyo Wonderland.

Lovely property that’s been very tastefully refurbished and a fun way to experience more traditional houses. Assi is very helpful and very generously gave us a lift to Magome for the Nakasendo hike. We also really enjoyed Sakashita - there were some good restaurants and it was great to escape the tourists.

Beautiful setting, quirky but very comfortable accommodation, very friendly and helpful hosts and some of the best food we had on Japan. Famous inside and outside onsen too. And they will pick you up and drop you off in Nagiso or Tsumago. Brilliant last night in Japan.

Suhara (Okuwa) is a lovely small town on the Nakasendo on the Kiso river. It's in Nagano prefecture. There are some lovely houses. Trains are reliable but infrequent so plan carefully if travelling by train. Make sure you don't go to the town of the same name, on the same river, in Gifu prefecture as we did. Super place if you love peace, quiet and walking / hiking
