It has a great sandy beach below and it is ideal for all especially surfers. The room was very large offering fantastic views out to sea and down to the beach. There is a hotel shuttle bus taking us to Shimoda but we also caught a local bus not far from the hotel.

The location is great. Open baths, the whole Ryokan experience with food and futon.
This was our first Ryokan experience where we actually slept, and could get very used to this.

The room was good and I had an ensuite bathroom even though I booked a room with shared bathroom facilities. The Inn had two outstanding 24/7 Onsens and was only a 200m walk to Shirahama Beach.

Went to Shimoda mid Sept which was lean season for summer adventure so less people around. It offers good beaches and many water activities. Stayed for a week which gives us relaxing time to enjoy the beach and places to see.

Great town right on the coast, has a number of great beaches nearby and beautiful rocky coastlines and cliffs to see. It is more of a tourist town though, so expect prices of things to be high. Be ready to hear constantly about Commodore Perry and the Black Ships! Some things require you to sign up or buy tickets well in advance; it's worth looking up anything you're interested in trying beforehand to see if it does.
Best coffee we had was at the Hana Cafe, best food was the South Cafe.

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Beach Inn Shirahama.
We very much enjoyed our stay at the Beach Inn Shirahama. It's right across the street from a lovely beach and the breakfast was quite nice. We loved the 2 outdoor onsens that are built on the 1F. Great to watch the stars from there amidst the treetops!
Amazing stay. From when I got recommended about this hostel, to checking the photos, to getting there (even on a rainy day), I was amazed by the view and the interior. It's a very nice designed space for travellers to enjoy the seaside of Shimoda. You can use the bikes (for free) and rent surf boards and stand up paddling boards. The owners were really nice, always hanging out and chatting with everyone. The vibes there were great!! Beds were comfortable, the whole place was always so clean. Arigato gozaimasu!
Stayed twice at this little family hotel. Love the location and all the little rituals the owners have. For example, when checking out you can choose two of over 15 variants of photographs of the local nature that the owner takes himself. Since we stayed as a family, everyone got to choose two and now we have a great collection of photos of these beautiful area. The hotel is comfortable, clean and has it’s own small onsen.
Thank you for the hospitality!
This place is exceptional. The staff are all wonderful and kind. They made us feel welcome from the first moment we arrived. The rooms are lovely with a sea view that is just gorgeous! The breakfast was excellent, with lots of nice taste treats! There’s a bus stop going to either Shirahama Beach or into Shimoda very close by (1-2 minutes walk). There’s a swimming pool, bar and an onsen on site. This place just can’t be faulted!
The staff were lovely and friendly. They made very good efforts to communicate with us in english since our Japanese is terrible and everything was very easy. The egg salad sandwiches they gave us as part of the complimentary breakfast was to die for. The outdoor onsens were nothing short of magical. The room was simple but comfortable, and less than 5 minutes walking from the beach.
Very nice house, makes you feel at home immediately. Close to beach and cafes/restaurants (reco Sunny Side and cafe Mellow). Super pool table that guarantees some fun family moments (and nice backup in case of bad weather!) owner very responsive and available for tips. Wish we’d discovered this earlier - would have been our favorite Shimoda spot!
Shimoda is a really cool town, I loved it, and I think if it hadn’t been for the location and the value of TOMI’s place, then I might not have stayed for the full three nights. I was able to rent a bike for two days very cheaply from TOMI, and the beds were very comfortable and the dorm was quiet. Loads and loads to do in the area!
From the moment we arrived, we realized this place was better than what we had expected from the photos. It felt very old-world Japan. It was dignified, polite, sprawling, and comfortable. The onsen were excellent, the gardens were nice to walk through, and staff were very courteous and helpful. We hope to go back.
Room was nice and big enough for two. AC works well. No problems with the shared bathroom. The location is alright (10 min walk from the station) but could be better. There's a good and cheap fish restaurant close by but nothing else much. There's a bus stop right in front to take a bus to Shirahama.
We went here for a weekend trip to the Shimoda area, it's a nicely decorated place in surf-style, the host was nice and even let us pick our room-style. The location is right in front of a bus stop and very close to the beach.
Location is the best to go to Shirahama beach, hot spring and facilities (teapot, fridge) are good, yukata for all guests, staff are very supportive, the view from the room is amazing and shuttle bus is very convenient.
The location was isolated and set above the coastline, but had access to the shore. The hotel was comfortable, rooms were pleasant and staff was very helpful in all areas. Onsen areas clean and well stocked.
Hotel was in a good location. Public bath (onsen) was nice. Hotel has a lot of facilities which was very convenience (e.g. laundry, onsen). Hotel is near to the restaurants.
cleanliness, although hotel is dated you nearly didn't feel it, superb dinner for that price, outdoor bath, closeness to the beach and convenient store
