Absolutely everything! We were looking for a true traditional Japanese home stay experience and we got exactly what we wanted. Aki is such a great host and really makes you feel at home. If you're looking for an authentic Japanese experience, then you need to stay here! Thank you Aki, we will definitely be coming back again.

I did a one day trip, I went there just because of the naturals onsen, and it was the best decision, I arrived about 10:00 at leave at the same time of the next day. Honestly I don't think is a trip for more than 3 days.
Gero is a beautiful city, it has a few museums that can be seen in one period of the day. As the city is small, it doesn't need car or bus to go around if no one has fiscal disabilities.
This was my second time at Japan, and I regret not going to Gero the first time as well.

Out of all the places we ate in, I think we enjoyed eating in Unasho the most. They serve unagi, which is a specialty of Nagoya, their neighboring prefecture. There are some negative reviews about unasho, about how it's not value for money, but I don't think so. On our return trip, we passed through Nagoya station and ate in one of the famous unagi places in Nagoya called Maruya Honten. We preferred the unagi from Unasho, it was cleaner and prepared better because you felt the fishbones less in your mouth when you chewed.
The hot pudding from Yuamiya was TO DIE FOR. We came back twice to the shop during our trip so that we could eat it again and again.

If you love pudding, onsen or frogs, Gero is definitely the place to stay! The hot Hida milk pudding is absolutely delicious. There is a cute little frog shrine and lots of frog related souvenirs, cookies and street decor. There are public foot baths, great hot sprins and enough places to get a decent snack.
I can highly recommend La Vita e Bella. This is an italian place in Gero. The staff were absolutely adorable. They spoke English really well and they actually had a proper English menu.

In Gero itself there are just a few sights to go to. However you can easily stay there to discover Takayama or other close sights. Also there are every hot springs were you can either dip in your feet, hands or just jump in with whole body.
best way to experience traditional Javanese culture, no crowd that day, excellent view, very quiet. dinner is amazing yummy with handsome Japanese guy to sever us. we can even have our dinner in our private dining room. tatami experience for kids, they love it , viewing the magnificent nourish green mountain with private onsen in our own room. Breakfast is also very impressed. Highly recommend
Loved everything!!! We had a lady from Napal that was our room attendant. She was absolutely wonderful and very kind. She set up our meals and helped us to understand hotel. All staff were wonderful. This town is so cool to visit. Next time we will come in summer to visit other little mountain towns nearby. Make sure you get the hot pudding!!!
Staff were nice and able to speak Chinese as well. Room is simple and clean with comfortable Japanese tatami. It is bit far away from train station and need to walk up to slope with luggages. Otherwise, short taxi trip may be a better choice.
Private hot spring ia good and big space for family. Those shop in the city, Gero, closed around 5pm.
I like everything, including the host, staff members, the room and facilities, meals with personalised menu, the onsen and the beautiful scenery. The hotel is located just opposite to the Ideyu Morning Market and a few minutes walk from the Gero Onsen Gassho-mura, a cultural heritage that shouldn't be missed if travelling to Gero.
The staff are amazing, the outdoor hot spring is truly beautiful at night, and the included meals are incredible. Because it is smaller than many of the resort hotels, you feel like you are getting the full Ryokan experience. The staff knew who we were our entire stay.
Very friendly host. Rooms are not fancy but comfortable enough with everything you need. Onsen is one of the best I’ve experienced. Also love the miso soup in the breakfast, very tasty.
Beautiful location, great onsen bathes.
The hotel staff go way and beyond to make you feel special.
Will definitely come back to stay in this ryokan, me and my wife had a great time:)
