Staff very attentive and very hospitable. Food is excellent. Property very well maintained and exude a tranquil charm as it’s located next to the river. Love the onsen spa pool. They have public onsen pool and private onsen pool which needs reservation in advance. Overall my family enjoyed our stay here and we highly recommend it.

Absolutely everything! We were looking for a true traditional Japanese home stay experience and we got exactly what we wanted. Aki is such a great host and really makes you feel at home. If you're looking for an authentic Japanese experience, then you need to stay here! Thank you Aki, we will definitely be coming back again.

Quick look: The room was really nice and big, the food was great, and the staff was so nice.
The outdoor hot spring was my favorite. It was like a slice of nature to enjoy while you soaked. I found the best hours to go were just before 4pm and in the morning after breakfast. There weren't a lot of people then.
My room had a great view of the river and when I went to eat, the Kansui restaurant had a fantastic view of the outside garden (which you can also walk around in). I really liked that I could hear the river from my room. It lulled me to sleep quite nicely.
I stayed for two nights. The food was different both evenings and both mornings but all delicious. The staff that served it took care of everything like turning on the burners and serving you rice and tea. It really allowed you to focus on eating and enjoying the scenery. It's a lot of food, but all healthy and worth trying, especially if you're new to Japan.
I think the staff spoke English too, if you need the English support.
All around, it was a really great place. Amazing value and just so peaceful.

I did a one day trip, I went there just because of the naturals onsen, and it was the best decision, I arrived about 10:00 at leave at the same time of the next day. Honestly I don't think is a trip for more than 3 days.
Gero is a beautiful city, it has a few museums that can be seen in one period of the day. As the city is small, it doesn't need car or bus to go around if no one has fiscal disabilities.
This was my second time at Japan, and I regret not going to Gero the first time as well.

Out of all the places we ate in, I think we enjoyed eating in Unasho the most. They serve unagi, which is a specialty of Nagoya, their neighboring prefecture. There are some negative reviews about unasho, about how it's not value for money, but I don't think so. On our return trip, we passed through Nagoya station and ate in one of the famous unagi places in Nagoya called Maruya Honten. We preferred the unagi from Unasho, it was cleaner and prepared better because you felt the fishbones less in your mouth when you chewed.
The hot pudding from Yuamiya was TO DIE FOR. We came back twice to the shop during our trip so that we could eat it again and again.

If you love pudding, onsen or frogs, Gero is definitely the place to stay! The hot Hida milk pudding is absolutely delicious. There is a cute little frog shrine and lots of frog related souvenirs, cookies and street decor. There are public foot baths, great hot sprins and enough places to get a decent snack.
I can highly recommend La Vita e Bella. This is an italian place in Gero. The staff were absolutely adorable. They spoke English really well and they actually had a proper English menu.

In Gero itself there are just a few sights to go to. However you can easily stay there to discover Takayama or other close sights. Also there are every hot springs were you can either dip in your feet, hands or just jump in with whole body.
I had an amazing time staying here, gero Onsen was just a short train ride away and the owners picked me up and dropped me off at the station every time I got a train! The house itself was lovely aswell old Japanese style futon, nice wooden Japanese decor and a river running just one step from your private door to the garden! the location is abit remote but with trains you can get to Takayama and gero very easily and the train ride is scenic as hell. I had a great time staying here :) .
Traditional ryokan that is very welcoming. Highly recommended to book your stay with meals. We love the dinner and breakfast served to us in the restaurant. They have indoor and outdoor onsen which is well maintained. There are also free coffee and cold water for you to drink at the lobby area. There is also a small souvenir stall for you to shop. Upon check out, we managed to get the Gero Onsen Gassho Village tickets from the reception at a discounted price.
-great hospitality, able to communicate in Eng or using gg translate.
When we were leaving, they even came outside to say goodbye ,also standing and waving until our car gone.
- This hotel has to carry suitcase up one floor, but they helped to carry all the way in and out.
- Big private dinner and BF room for each family.
-River view from the room.
-Coin laundry nearby outside the hotel.
-Quiet area at night.
We expected to stay in an Japanese Style "Ryokan" and were absolutely blown away with the experience.
The hosts were very friendly and helpful, they cooked great food and some locals were having a drink in the evening where the mood was fantastic. We really enjoyed our stay there and have already decided, if we will be able to come to Japan again, we will visit this nice place again.
The in-room onsen was fabulous. The windows can fully open with an enjoyable view. A pleasant surprise that there are fireworks shows along the river on Saturdays and our room allowed us a view of the show. The dinner was served in our room and was fancy and delicious! The staff were pleasant and helpful and we managed to communicate adequately via google translate.
Izumi-so was my first Ryokan experience and couldn't recommend it more, the host was lovely, kind and accommodating. My room was very nice and the breakfast was delicious; the open air onsen was also lovely at night!
Great location, about a 1-2 minute walk from the center of Gero. 10/10
The staff are amazing, the outdoor hot spring is truly beautiful at night, and the included meals are incredible. Because it is smaller than many of the resort hotels, you feel like you are getting the full Ryokan experience. The staff knew who we were our entire stay.
This place was exceptional. The owners were the kindest people we have met in Japan so far. Staying in their property was great to experience a traditional Japanese style house. Their hospitality was truly something I haven't experienced before.
This was a great find! The location, facilities, staff and breakfast was excellent. The Onsen was outdoor and had a beautiful garden setting. The check-in was very personable and informative about what to see and where to eat. We will return.
Conveniently located; large onsen pool with outdoor section; superb Japanese style dinner and breakfast; yukata provided was very comfortable to wear; polite staff; table tennis facility; free shuttle bus and taxi service
