We had a really relaxing time at Lucas memorial. The family and staff who run the hotel are so friendly and kind and made us feel really comfortable. The room was comfortable with Aircon and the pool was really relaxing we spend most of our time relaxing around the pool and it was heaven! The restaurant was good value and we had some really tasty food! The garden was really big and full of wildlife, we sat on the sun loungers one evening and watched the monkeys playing in the trees. There isn’t much to do in the area no shops or anything in walking distance but everything you need is at the hotel and you can get a tuktuk to the next town if you want. While you are here you NEED to go to the Kosgoda Turtle hatchery one evening and do the turtle releasing it was amazing and the highlight of our trip! The hotel arranged a lovely tuktuk guy to take us and drop us off it was only 5 minutes away.

They had very limited options for breakfast. Didn’t refill the tea/coffee sachets when we asked. Said they only provide tea/coffee for one cup. We were asked to pay and order tea if we wanted. It was absurd, even five star hotels refill the tea/coffee in rooms when we ask. It was a cheap move. At the morning breakfast, the milk rice didn’t have milk and the sambol was made with dedicated or used coconut. It was so dry and tasteless. There was no tea station or the waiters didn’t offer tea when the guests were having breakfast. So we didn’t know we could get tea at breakfast. They didn’t fill the sachets in rooms and didn’t offer tea at breakfast table, most of us had no way of having morning tea. It’s situated in a remote area so there are no restaurants or shops around. When we wanted to order bites the prices were too expensive. Given the quality of the hotel they could not charge 3650 for club sandwiches. If they had reasonable prices people would have ordered from them conveniently. But we went back to a town looking for a good place to get food because the hotel was trying to rob us in broad daylight. Sri Lankans are very hospitable people. This is the land of tea. The stingy things they do reflect badly on Sri Lanka because they portray a wrong image. Tourists wouldn’t want to come back to this kind of treatment.

We loved everything: the rooms were large and with beautiful design, everything super clean; very confortable bed. At one point we were the only guests (our group) since it is a small resort. The pool is amazing, food was perfect. It s best to preorder, so you don t wait. Try Tomato and Orange soup, my favorite, also shrimps, pasta, lamb.. they have a very good Chef. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The nearby Balapytia beach was so beautiful, we saw a wonderful sunset from the rocks. It was splendid to relax here after visiting the island. It was one if the 2 best hotels we stayed in Sri Lanka. Only 5 km to River Madu boat tour. 30-40 min to Hikkaduwa to see turtles.

The owner was so helpful, and he did his best to comfort us. Sightseeing is amazing, and you can see different birds, including eagles and hawks. The pool and the room was clean.
