The only reason to stay in Ocosingo is because you want to go to the Mayan ruins at Tonina and your travel plans are such that you need to stay the night nearby. The town itself leaves little to be desired. No good shopping/stores. No real grocery store even. Maybe a couple of the restaurants are ok. The highlight is the Pemex station on the North end of town. The restaurant we picked for the evening was awful. The town is very traditional, and if you look different from the locals (like my blond daughter) be prepared for unfriendly stares and people following you in a threatening way. We have never experienced that in any other Mexican city or town we have visited. Tonina is GREAT, worth the trip. If we had to do it again, I suppose we would stay in Ocosingo. The hotel we stayed at was fine, with nice staff, but the rest of the town had a very run-down, third-world feel to it. It is very poor, that is true. They probably don't get many visitors that stay. Most people keep driving through. The local attitude likely will encourage that. Aside from the central square park (by the government building), which is pretty small, there really isn't anything to see in the town.

Ocosingo itself is of no interest, but the nearby pyramid in Toniná is fabulous and really worth seeing. There are cabañas near the entrance to the pyramids, but they are very basic and the beds really uncomfortable. New accommodations called Casita Toniná are in the process of being built, located 1 kilometer before reaching the pyramids.
