Love everything about this place! The couple who own the hotel are amazing! Kind and very helpful! They really couldn’t do enough for us although they were very busy. Pepe took us out in his boat to search for the last grey whale in the bay, we found it and followed it. Pepe has an affinity with the bay, he loves it and takes a real pride in his work! It really shows. We will be back! Thanks for the memories, it was a highlight of a year road-trip around Mexico!

Hotel Isabela, hotel in San Carlos

Hotel Villas Isabela is located just 200 metres from Punta Palapa Beach, in San Carlos. It offers a restaurant and snack bar, a terrace with hammocks and air-conditioned rooms with free Wi-Fi.

Breakfast was advertised as being included with our room: however, after the owner informed us that the room we had reserved (and they had confirmed) was no longer available, we had to haggle with her to ensure we received breakfast despite our having to stay at another subpar "sister" establishment located several blocks away. We've never had this happen when using booking.com before. Very disappointing!

San Carlos is a quaint Mexican town with friendly people.

San Carlos is a quaint Mexican town with friendly people. We came for the whale watch and booked through Magdalena Bay Whale Watching. It was very expensive for what the experience was, but glad to have done it. Jesus, who drove us to the start was a wonderful person...kind, caring and attentive. Our captain/guide was Christian and he was great, really trying to give us the best experience.....one close whale encounter and then just a lot of tail flukes as the whales were diving.....perhaps the wrong time of the year for seeing more whales. With that said, we did get a great dolphin encounter for 20 minutes, met local fishermen, lots of seabirds, saw sea lions and walked the beautiful windswept dunes. Had a great lunch at "Restaurant la Pasudita" when we first arrived.

We enjoyed staying in San Carlos, it is very small & local, which we like. We had our meals at the hotel, walked & drove around the town to see the sights. You can't get lost there, very little traffic, moving slowly. The highlight was our whale watching trip & lunch on the island where they are mainly fishermen. I had a fresh caught lobster, huge, ate the entire thing!

I highly recommend the whale watching.

I highly recommend the whale watching. There is nothing else like it -- so close to the whales. I was worried that they might feel scared or threatened, but it didn't seem that way at all. They were calm and seemed to readily co-exist with the boats. All of us were incredibly moved by the experience. This was a bucket list item for me, and I could not have been more pleased with the result.

Very small town, we went there to see the whales the tours were overpriced and some too long. We decided to drive to Puerto Chale and took a 3 hour boat tour which we enjoyed and got to see the grey whales. There were over 60 of them swimming and playing in the bay. The tour was very reasonable, $400 pesos per person compare to $1000 pesos in San Carlos.
